Linda (Lin)'s Story
Life
I've been an elementary school teacher in Brevard County since March of '73. I started teaching at Mims Elementary, where I interned, and since then have taught at several schools. I currently teach third grade at Columbia Elementary (named after Space Shuttle Columbia)in Palm Bay. I've served on the executive board of the Brevard Federation of Teachers for many years. It's one of the most rewarding things I do. I'm politically active, and try to make a difference. I guess that's something that combines the inspiration I received from some of my teachers at THS, plus what I learned at home.
I've lived in my own home in Palm Bay, for over twenty years. I live there with my little Pekingese, KaShi, who is three and a half years old, Lady Marisa, a ten year old Peke I recently rescued from the Melbourne shelter. My mom still lives in the same house in Forest Hills in Titusville. My dad passed away in February of 2002. I miss him very much. I enjoy reading, gardening, traveling, and visiting with friends. Being a teacher, the summer is my travel time.
During the summer of 2007 I had the "trip of a lifetime!" I visited a friend who lives in England for about 3 weeks and visited another friend who lives in Spain ...Expand for more
for five days. I stayed in the tiny village of Shamley Green in Surrey, England, and took sidetrips to nearby London, Windsor Castle, etc. We stayed in Stratford Upon Avon overnight and went "home: through the Cotswolds, a lovely area of rolling hills, adorable quaint villages with streams going through the main street (called High Street) of many of them. I also visited Bath, where the Roman baths are. It was a fabulous experience. In Spain I stayed in Andalucia on the Costa Del Sol, and also saw Granada and the Gibraltar area. In Granada I was in the fabulous Alhambra where legend has it that Queen Isabella gave Columbus the go-ahead to go to the "Indies."
I enjoyed working on the committee for the 35th reunion.. It's was a lot of fun getting to know everyone again (some for the first time). I hope everyone who came enjoyed the reunion,. Hoping to have another one before too long.
I'd love to hear from you. Lin

Workplace
I've been a teacher in the Brevard County school system since March of 1973. It's been a rewarding, demanding career. I am in my fifth year of the Florida DROP (pre-retirement) program, and hope to be able to teach three more years after this one.
