Linda's Story
School
If I knew then what I know now, I would have done things differently back in the day.
If I had the chance to go back, I would find ways to make the most of the experience, including getting involved in more extra-curricular activities and studying harder.
I realize now that it was my choice whether to make the experience positive or negative, and unfortunately, my foresight was very limited at the time.
I have to say, however, that I did manage to make up for it in college, where I basically had a blast!!
College
I have nothing but great memories about my college experience at Western Illinois University. Being away from home, I felt a great sense of freedom and formed many solid friendships.
I don't believe I missed a Friday ...Expand for more
happy hour the entire time I was there (which isn't necessarily a good thing)! At the time, the places to be for happy hour were The Gin Mill and The Regulator, both of which I was a card carrying member.
After the first year, I started taking my courses seriously. I brought up my GPA, and made the Dean's List my senior year.
I had no idea, at the time, what I wanted to do with my life. I was too busy living in the moment. As a result, I am now working in a different field than my major at Western. I think I needed college just as much for the life experience as the education.
Would I study harder and be more focused, if I could do it all again?...Probably, but I wouldn't have traded the social opportunities I had at Western for anything!
