Linda's Story
I began school at Dolby Elementary (Mrs. Key was my first grade teacher) in Lake Charles, LA. Never the sharpest tool in the woodshed, I still made A's and B's. During 5th grade (long before Wynette sang D.I.V.O.R.C.E.), my parents divorced.
The year JFK was shot, my mother and step-father moved to Jacksonville, Florida. I stayed in Lake Charles. I was now cheerleader in the 7th grade at S.J. Welsh Middle School. The same year, Darrell Duplechain and I won the Cajun Pogo dance contest at Pelican Skate Land.
Before the year was over, my uncle made national headlines because of crime. To protect us from the media, my father sent me to live with my mother in Jacksonville, FL. In Jacksonville, I met the love of my life.

77, Ronnie Vanzant died in an airplane crash, but not before changing the world of southern rock. We were children, but I never loved another so completely.
In the 10th grade, we moved back to Louisiana. My grades were no longer at the top, but I finished high school and later attended college.
Today, I am retired from Lamar University and live in Beaumont, TX. The handsome young man in the picture is my youngest son. I have 4 children, 5 grandchildren, and 1 great grandson.
Linda Sue Ash was my best friend at Dolby Elementary. And, while I've met many other wonderful people, Linda and I are still friends today.
I was divorced in 1989. If I've learned anything in life, it's that all things work together for good to those who love God.
