Linda's Story

Life I got married August 11, 1967 and still married to the same one after 42 years. Have two children: 1 girl and 1 boy. Four grandsons. They are the love of my life. We live in Clay, AL now. I retired from Jefferson County after 20 years. I love the beach, swimming, reading and would love traveling the United States seeing out of the way places. Love going to the class reunions. Recently met Beverly Vines' brother in Destin, FL of all places. Love to hear from all grads from 1966. Hope to have photo posted later. School Well, let's see. I had a huge crush on Ed Duke but I was very shy back then and never let him know. Things didn't work out along that avenue but hey one door closed and another opened. I would love to be back in time as a high school freshman. I only got to attend Tarrant High for 2 years. So the next time around, I would attend all 4 years there. Boy would I try harder in my studies, go out for cheerleader, join more clubs and flirt with all the boys. Mrs. Salter was my favorite teacher. I loved her English class. She taught me a great deal on expressing my thoughts on paper. She knew I was shy, so she didn't call on me very much. I loved going to the football games. 1965 was the year Tarrant was State champs. Mike Hall and Alvin Samples were featured a lot in the paper of which I still have copies of. I was friends with Carolyn Brown, Betty Edwards and Gail Foust. The funniest memory I have with Carolyn and Betty was when I spent the night at Betty's house. We stayed up all night doing stupid silly things to each other. I caught the worst end of the deal when they doused me with some really cheap purfume. I got in my hair and clothes and I had to go home with it on. It took me two days of washing my hair to get the smell out. Even now, sometimes when I smell some flowers, I ca...Expand for more
n catch a whiff of the smell and I won't buy them. Awful smell. Gail and I skipped school together one day in the spring. We were scared or at least I was and didn't enjoy it much. She even checked back into school that same day. Brave I wasn't back then but I've changed a lot since then and wouldn't think twice about doing it today. I always wanted to be a teacher when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a great idea. As it turns out, they were right or semi. I did want to become a teacher but never had the opportunity to finish college because I got married. I love to read and the way for me to relax is to get my favorite book, a chair and go sit outside and read. That also helps me get rid of anger. I am very patriotic and loves the military. I support them by writing letters and sending packages over to them. I guess it started with my era: the Vietnam era. Many of the boys I graduated with either served over there and some died. The soldiers have been my heroes ever since. I lived most of my life in Sayreton which is a mining town outside of North Birmingham. My parents moved around alot so we lived in Sayreton, Acipico, North Birmingham and McCalla. I attended Powell Elementary, Fairmont, Eagan, North Birmingham elementary schools and Phillips, McAdory and Tarrant High Schools. I guess I am a stronger person for having to adjust and make new friends. My best friend would tell you I'm an extrovert, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as shy. I will be 61 July 7th. I don't have the mindset of a 60 year old woman. I still think of myself as one cool, young chick but experience really has me as a 50 year old mature woman. In 5 years I would love to be living near the beach enjoying the rest of my life. I also want to be a very healthy 65 year old woman though.
