Linda's Story

Life I graduated from Good Samaritan School of Nursing diploma program in 1968. After graduation, I returned to Klamath Falls and work at the local hospital in the obstetrical unit for about ten months. I then made a decision to return to Portland because in those days, the pay was much higher. I began working on a med-surgical unit at Bess Kaiser hospital for about three months while waiting for an opening in the operating room which was my first love in nursing school. I finally got into the O.R. where I have worked at Bess Kaiser and Kaiser Sunnyside Medical Center for 38 years. Three years ago I embarked on a new role in the O.R. I was accepted and hired for the education coordinator position and continue to work in this position coordinating staff education, training nurse interns and working with various student nurse groups from the various Portland area nursing schools. It is definitely in my plans to seek retirement in the next couple of years. I married Bill Parashos in 1972. hool classmate. Bill currently manages a western apparel store in Troutdale, OR. We have one son, John, who was born in 1975. John currently lives in Louisiana. After hurricane Katrina hit in 2005, John was displaced with many thousands of other New Orleans area residents but was eventually located. We are in hopes that he will soon return to Oregon or another western state. In addition to the long hours that I work, I find time to engage in my favorite hobbies which include gardening, listening to and composing music and my ongoing desire to continue education by enrolling in various programs. I most recently enrolled in a legal nurse consulting distance education program in Florida which I successfully completed. Much to my disappointment, I fell just short of making their honor roll. I found that this program has definitely helped me to see a much "bigger picture" in providing educational presentations and opportunites for the operating staff in my department. It remains my goal to eventually move into the legal field as a consultant once I retire from my current job.
