Life
Greetings, Everyone!! Please leave your name if you read this, I would love to know who is visiting my profile.
June, 2016: This is the year that has changed my life and how I view life forever. Jan 4th I was diagnosed with breast cancer and had a mastectomy on the 18th. My major treatments are done, but I am still doing PT which will continue through the middle of August. Then this week I started having some issues with my heart that are probably due in part to the Radiation Therapy for my cancer. Another hurdle to get over. I will be wearing a heart monitor for the next month and then we will see what more treatments I am going to need. I just don't want any of this to interfere with me attending the McCook Reunion in September if my kids will let me drive up by myself after all this crazy stuff that is going on with my health this year. In spite of it all, I am feeling good, still working and planning to head to McCook in September.
UPDATE (Feb, 2015): I'm still working and loving my job.....the 6 grandkids who live with me are growing--ages 11 - 19.....one is in college in Phoenix and we now have a licensed driver with her brother close behind with his Permit...... Insurance is going up, up, up!!! Yikes!!!! The twins are only 11, so it will be a few years before they are driving. All six kids are awesome and I love having them and their parents living with me. There is always something going on around here!!!
The LAHS Alumni Reunion Committee is working hard on the next Reunion to be held July 24, 25 this year. Hope we see lots of "old friends" there. I am also working on a Class of '61 Reunion that will be held the two days prior to the BIG Reunion.....July 22 & 23. We had a great time at the 50th Reunion in 2011 and we all voted to have our Reunion just before the BIG Reunion so people can cover both with one trip to New Mexico. Hope we see more of our '61 Classmates here this year.
UPDATE (April, 2014): Well, I now have 7 great-grandchildren.....the youngest, Cara, is not a year and a half old. I got to see 11 of my grandchildren and 5 of my great-grandchildren between Thanksgiving and Christmas last year. What a tremendous blessing that was!!!
Also between Thanksgiving and Christmas I flew with my daughter and her two older children out to Norfolk, Virginia, for the my youngest son's Change of Command Ceremony. He took Command of the USS Maryland SSBN 738. For those who are not aware, that is a Trident submarine.....the largest in the Navy Fleet. He just told me last week there are only 12 of them in the Fleet. That was so exciting!! He has worked really hard his entire career to reach this goal he set for himself when he enlisted in the Navy right out of high school back in 1989. You might say I am an very proud mom.
I am still working and still loving my job....I have been promoted to the position of Facility Security Officer for our company. I had to got through extensive training and obtain a TS Clearance to qualify for this position. Who would have thought that I would be doing something like at the age of 70?! I think it is great, but sometimes it boggles my mind!!
My daughter and her family are still living with me and that is just plain awesome!! I pick up the younger kids from school when I get off work and when she gets home from work, she makes dinner for all of us. I so enjoy having all these children in my life daily.....can't imagine what it would be without them. I know I would be very sad and lonely.......they keep me young and very involved in life!! Couldn't ask for anything better!!!
UPDATE: It's been more than a year again...I really need to check this out more often...My son, Kenny just became a grandpa for the second time....That makes 5 great-grandkids now...amazing. I always thought you had to be REEEAALY old for great-grandkids.
NEXT UPDATE(July, 2012): Last October my granddaughter in California gave me great-grandchild #6(boy) and in October this year Kenny's daughter in Florida will make it #7 with a little girl. On May 23 I received an email from Ancestry.com from my husband's daughter looking for her father and siblings......so now I have 5 kids and 16 grandkids. My family just keeps growing......I wish my husband was still alive to enjoy all these kiddos....he never got to me...Expand for more
et his daughter who was born 5 months after our son Geoffry and a year before our daughter, Cassie.
I have had a very busy, wonderful life! I got married a couple of years after high school. My husband was in the Air Force for 26 years and we moved a lot! We started at Lackland AFB, TX; then Naples, Italy; Scott AFB, IL; Keesler AFB, MS; Holloman AFB, NM; Elmendorf AFB, AK; Wright-Patterson AFB, OH; back to Keesler AFB, MS; and finally Kirtland AFB in Albuquerque, NM where he retired in 1990. Those were fun years - met lots of people, had wonderful experiences and saw many beautiful places. Is it any wonder that I love to travel?! Oh, yes, and back between Scott AFB and Keesler AFB, my husband tried the civilian life in Chicago and Indianapolis for a couple of years - didn't like it so re-enlisted. He worked for the Postal Service in Santa Fe for 10 years before being medically retired in 2003. Since he passed away almost 5 years ago, I have been learning a new way of life and a lot about myself. I find that I really like who I am becoming and I love life and all it has to offer!
In June, 2007, my daughter and her 4 children came to live with me which necessitated a bigger house. So in March, 2008, I bought my first house - I never dreamed I would own a house! Wow! What a wonderful experience this has been! I have made this MY house - painted the outside, put in new windows and landscaped the backyard. It was just dirt, weeds, and debris when we moved in. And I had a patio cover put in so we can sit outside and enjoy our gorgeous new yard!
UPDATE: In August, 2009, my daughter got married again and her new husband has two boys...they are really great kids. So she and her new husband, Bill, and her four kids live with me now and his two boys are with us every weekend....What a lively household we have! IT'S GREAT!!!! I LOVE IT!!!!
I have five children, three boys and two girl - they have given me 13 grandchildren and 1 step-granddaughter and 2 step-grandsons. The 16 of them(10 girls & 6 boys) range in age from 24 down to 10 years. I also have 7...yes, 7, great grandchildren (4 boys, 3 girls). I didn't think I was old enough for great-grandchildren yet. When did I get to be that old?! I obviously wasn't paying attention...I've been too busy living life to notice time passing.
The 4 of my kids have all been affiliated with the military in one way or the other. The first boy was in the Coast Guard, the second was in the Air Force and the third is currently in the Navy.
I am now a very busy Nana - helping my daughter with her children. School has been liberating for me, the kids are in school all day. I have enjoyed my free time and then pick up the kids from school each day. It keeps me very busy.
UPDATE: Christmas, 2010...I am now working part-time and I love it! Keeps me out of trouble while the kids are all at school...hehehehe! ;-)
As I said before I love to travel! I have flown to the east coast about once a year to see my Navy son and his family. Now (2008) they are moving to Georgia so I will be able to see two of my sons in one trip - yippee!! UPDATE: 2010 - He was transferred to Tampa, FL in June, so now I have another new place to go. UPDATE: 2013 - He has left Tampa and is in training to command a submarine which he will take command of in December.
But my favorite thing is to go on "road trips". Just before my daughter came to live with me, she and I took her two older kids out to New Jersey to see their dad for a month. We went up through Iowa and across I-80. Then we went down through Georgia, spent a couple of days with Kenny and back home the Southern route. It was a fun trip and we saw a lot of new places along with some old familiar places. the way. Last year, 2012, I took a trip to my husband's Family Reunion......haven't been to one since 2007.....I had a wonderful time......I was by myself and was able to stop where ever for as long as I wanted. It was great!!! Don't know if I will be able to fit in a road trip this year or not......time will tell.
I love Classmates because it has enabled me to get in touch with many old friends. Connecting with old friends is one of my favorite things to do. One thing I have learned over the years is that old friends are the best friends, so please stay in touch!!!
