Linda's Story

I got married about 2 years out of high school. We had a total of 3 kids. Sharon, Laura, and Leonard Scott. We lost Sharon in a drowning accident when she was 6 - Laura was 2 at the time. Scott was born two years after that, and we moved to Minnesota looking for jobs. We ended up going back to school, Paul got a degree in CAD drafting, I got a double diploma in Comp Sci and Accounting. (no degrees at that community college) We moved to South Dakota and were there a year, when Paul suddenly passed away. Two years later I got in touch with an old friend of ours (John, the kids godfather) and moved back to Texas with the kids and (at that time) a dog, 2 cats and a hamster in tow. Now we have just the dog - Kadie, a female black lab mix, and one cat (we had to put the other one to sleep) Salem - a male black Siamese mix. We settled in Allen, which is on the NE side of Dallas straight up 75, between Plano and McKinney. Mom passed away almost 4 years ago. I inherited have the house in Mineral Wells, and am STILL trying to get it all cleaned up and renovated so I can either rent it or sell it. Anyone interested? Laura is now almost 20 and going to school at Texas Tech, where she is majoring in Music Education. She hopes to teach in either Houston or Austin after graduation. She is not sure if she wants to teach elementary or middle school band students, but she said "I do not want to teach high school students, they already have a attitude when they get there." This from a young lady who refuses to eat fried chicken with her fingers - because it will mess up her nails. LOL Leonard is 15 and in the 8th grade. He was diagnosed with ADD / ADHD when he was 6 and has been on medication most of the last 9 years. It's been an interesting ride with him, as he is still very hyper even with it, and there is no controlling him when he hasn't had it for a few days. Lucky for me, he wants to be a comic, so it generally is just a constant cha...Expand for more
tter of every joke he's ever heard, most from Jeff Foxworthy, Robin Williams, and Jim Carrey - that is, when he isn't playing Guitar Hero or DDR. I got LASIK surgery 2 years ago and it was the best thing I ever did. No, I don't have to wear those coke-bottle rims ever again! John and I started dating seriously 6 years ago. He says he doesn't want to get married, but I figure I'll wear him down eventually -- unless he finds someone else in the meantime. And about the photo - that was taken on the only time I made it to Vegas, about 7 years ago. It's one of those gag visitor photos and I can't remember which casino we were in front of. If you have NOT been to Las Vegas, you need to go at least once. It was great! I went with John and his brother (short story - we only got the special rate on the two room suite if we had at least 3 adults). We didn't see any shows, but did get down to the strip where they filmed that James Bond movie, went to the Golden Nugget, and checked out the nugget it is named for, and spent most of the time in the Flamingo, right next to our hotel, in the main gambling room. I played slots and the boys would go play roulette, and craps. Funny story: When we went down to the strip, we went to a place across from the Nugget, and I found some quarter poker slots. Played them for about 6 hours, might have come out $25 ahead. John and Mark, after running their limit at the tables, started looking for me and never checked the slots in the back - where I was. They ended up standing in front of the bathrooms for an hour, figuring I'd eventually wander by -- which is where I found them. They said they had checked the entire casino, until I dragged them over to where I had been. They hadn't looked back there, because the machines were right in front of the poker tables, and they didn't see them, just the signs for the tables. Once they got over being mad, we all had a good laugh. And how have YOU been?
