Linda's Story

Rich and I were married in 1965 and missed graduating with the class, but we did go on to get our GEDs. We've had a good life with lots of ups and downs as most everyone else. We have 3 wonderful sons and 10 grandchildren. Our oldest son, Doug, lives in Alliance, He has twin daughters who both live in Greeley, Co. And two step -daughters who live in the Alliance area. Unfortunately his wife of 31 yrs. past away in February from cancer. Our middle son, David, went into the Air Force after graduating from high school. He retired after 20 + yrs. And works for the government in some capacity. Every thing has always been so secret. He just took a new job in Hawaii and they just moved there this mo. He has a step-son with his wife Jennifer. Ben is going to Penn State this year so they are empty nesters again. His daughter, Megan, is our first granddaughter. She is married and lives in Ohio. And his Son, Brad, is also married and lives in the suburbs of Washington D.C. and works for N.O.A.H. as a meteorologist. And our youngest son, Darren, is married to Glenda and together they are owners and managers of Darren's Carquest Auto Parts in Alliance. They have 3 children. The oldest lives in Lincoln and is a lineman. Emily is 15, and Bo is 9. They keep me busy picking up from school and running them here and there after school. Emily is my sweetheart. I've taught her how to quilt. Several years we both took quilts to the county fair.. I've taught her how to decorate cakes and she does a great job. Now that she is a freshman she has her learner's permit and is in just about everything in school. She's on the varsity golf team, was voted President of her class. Has already taken her 1st. ACT and did very well for her first time. She was always on the honor roll with distinction and has carried a 4.0 throughout middle school. She's now taking 2 math classes in her freshman year. And is in Future Business People o...Expand for more
f America. BO came along after the kids bought the business. I stopped down one day when Bo was about a month old and there was Glenda waiting on customers, running the register with him in a chest pack. Well I offered to take him while she finished covering lunches. And there I was from that day forward till he started school watching him at least a few hours a day.. Darren fixed up the back office with a couch, rocking chair, t.v., and a crib. It was the best days of my life. I can't believe he is now in the 3rd. Grade. So that is our family. We moved to Alliance in 1970 when Rich hired on the Bn railroad. After getting all three in school I started working outside the home. In 1980 I hired on the railroad as a clerk. Now being retired, I've never worked so hard.. I like to bake and decorate anything from birthday to 5 tier wedding cakes. I also do most of the yard work, mowing the yard, or planting and caring for my flowers. I love being outside in my garden. Rich worked for 29 yrs. before he slipped on ice between the tracks and blew a disk in his back. Now looking back on 3 back surgeries, he has paid a hefty price. He is unable to walk any distance without sitting down in pain. He has also had 3 heart surgeries. The first was a quadruple bypass. But he keeps on going like the energizing bunny. He can't face the fact that he is in his 70s. We both like to camp and love our Boston Terriors so much. He grew up having 2 BTs, and now we have 2. Sophie and Lucy. He also has built a trike out of an old mustang car. It is awesome! When he couldn't balance or ride his motorcycle anymore, only one way to go, three wheels! We have lived in our home for 35 years now. When we first bought it we started remodeling it. Now it's all like we want and thank goodness, because we could never do that kind of work today. That's about it, but we're both looking forward to the Sept. get together. See you then.
