Linda's Story

Life The day after graduation I moved to Vancouver,Washington. I attended Weaver Airline School through correspondence course and then spent a month in Kansas City, Missouri to finish. Went to work for the FBI in 1965 in Portland, OR, then married and moved to Hardan, Montana for a year then Worland, Wyoming for 7. Had two children, a boy and a girl. Divorced in 1976 and went to work for Bureau of Land Management, transferred to Roseburg, OR in 1980 and Retired January 3, 2007 after 33 years of federal service. I have a son and daughter, both married to "siblings" in one family. Have two grandchildren. I scrapbook all their photos, like to read, paint landscapes and seascapes and children when I have time. (I am very active in my church, I sing solos and am part of the audio visual technical team, women's ministries, etc. I stay in touch with several old classmates and find it very rewarding to renew old friendships. In fact; we just had a reunion of four of us that graduated in 1962 from Hoopa High. It has been exactly 45 years since then...Mary Henry, Beverly Palkki, Kathy Lucas and I met in Bandon, Oregon for five great days of fun and reminiscing. We were amazed that even after so many years, the connection still exists!! Our goal is to meet again next year in Hoopa and this time hopefully Barbara Mabry will be able to join us. School I started school in Hoopa in the 3rd grade and stayed through high school. I enjoyed the social part of school, friends, talking in class, clowning around but was actually quite shy in many ways. I enjoyed music and art the most although I enjoyed literature as an avid re...Expand for more
ader and consequently did pretty well in English and really enjoyed writing (still do). I didn't do well in Math - hated it actually. Mary Henry was my best friend all through school and this summer (2007), she and I, Bev Paulkki and Kathy Colgrove had a mini-reunion in Bandon, OR. It was Awesome and we are looking forward to doing it again next year. I had some really good friends in school and some excellent teachers. I always wanted to please everyone and probably pleased no one. Never dated much, but Tommy Nix in grade school and Bruce Newell in High School were my main heart-throbs (only in my dreams). I came to the Senior prom with an Airman from Trinidad (California)! I have lots of good memories of school. College I have taken a lot of college classes over the years, but never have gotten a degree. Mostly business, management, computer technology and classes to help me in my government career. Workplace I have worked for the FBI, travel agencies, plumbing companies, news paper, road crews, sugar beet truck driver but the longest career has been with The Bureau of Land Management. BLM is part of the Department of the Interior and is and an excellent agency to work for. The people are professional and the opportunities have been available to move up. I started as a GS-3 receptionist in 1977 in Worland, Wyoming and am now a Data/Records Administrator GS-11 in Roseburg, Oregon. Data Administration is becoming an important element in the management of records and it is challenging and look forward to learning more about it. I officially retired on January 3, 2007!!! Next career - grandmother and artist.
