Linda's Story

Life Hello fellow East High School Class of 1980 Alumni! I am hoping all is well with each and every one of you, as 2004 nears its end, and that you all have a safe and blessed New Year. There is much to tell, but so little time. To try to sum it all up would be insufficient, at best. After high school, I married my first husband (Craig Becker) on October 1,1980 (I met him through my sister & brother inlaw--he was their next door neighbor). I knew he had had cancer, but I was unaware of how things would turn out. He passed away in June 1982. He was 24, I was 20, and we had been married less than a year and a half. In September 1981, I had a daughter (BRANDY) from that marriage. She is now 23 and married with 2 young boys of her own. Yes, that's right-- am a grandma, which I LOVE! In December 1984, I married Mike Clyde who also graduated in '80 from East. We'll be celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary on December 28 this year. We have a son (KEVIN) who just turned 18 and is a senior at Kearns High. He plays football and is a good student, and also plays the cello in the orchestra. Mike served in the U.S. Navy from June 1984-June 1990 as a nuclear trained electronics technician. He went to Great Lakes, Illinois for basic training, then to Orlando, Florida for Naval Nuclear Power School, and then we moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho to get hands on training at INEL. Our son was born in November 1986 up there. In January of 1987, we moved to San Diego, California and we lived there for three and a h...Expand for more
alf years while Mike served aboard USS Flasher (a submarine) off of Point Loma. We had a lot of great times down there. It was a wonderful opportunity to get to move down there. My younger sister still lives down in southern California, and at the time, my cousin's husband was a Navy Seal so we got to see quite a bit of each other. We moved back to Salt Lake City in June of 1990 and we've been here ever since. I've mostly just been raising my kids and working. Not too many regrets, really. In 1997, we bought our first house in Kearns. It was great to finally have something to call or own, as many homeowners out there know that experience. I worked in retail from about 1993 to 2001, and I work for a call center now, and have been since March 2001. On April 14 2001, our daughter got married and on April 25, 2002, our first grandchild, Zachary, was born. Our daughter and son inlaw have been living with us for a little over 2 years now, and on September 16, 2004, our second grandchild, Brandon, was born. Mike and I love being grandparents. They both have truly been a blessing in our lives and we have so much to be grateful for. Mike has been working for Diebold for 7 years now and stays very busy. He works hard and there it's always a challenge for him. They work with ATM's and alarm systems, and such. Too much to describe. Well, I hope to hear from some of you, at some point. Take care, all of you, and we wish you a great Christmas and a great New Year. Sincerely, Linda Truswell (Clyde).
