Linda's Story

Life My Spouse This is my second marriage. My first marriage was with my high school sweetheart which lasted 12 years. Our interests subsequently diverged. I met my present husband at the accountant's office where I worked. I originally interviewed and hired him. We worked only occasionally together for the next couple of years. Then one Friday evening, being the only two unattached people in our office, we were both working late and decided to have a bite to eat together. We found we had so many similar interests that a few months later we started dating. The rest, they say, is history! My Pets We have two dogs, Duchess and Dotti. Duchess is a seven year old Golden Retriever, a lovely, kind, gentle dog, but can be very protective too. Dotti (short for Dot.com) is only three years old and is a mixed breed of retriever and possibly springer spaniel or border collie. She is white with three big black dots on her back and tail (the reason for her name). We also have two ponds with Canadian Koi fish (coloured Carp, really) in them. One we call "Momma" has given birth to two of the others. My lovebirds were given to me by a friend at work. The mom and dad have laid another clutch so, who knows, maybe I'll have to build an aviary!! I love their company but when I'm talking on the phone, they sure like to compete! My Kids We have twin sons, Marcus & David, who are now 30 (April, 2002). Marcus has his own business, his commercial pilots licence and a background career in accounting & office management. David works for a utility, reading meters and previously was in the Construction industry. In 1989 we adopted our daughter, Crystal, who was the...Expand for more
n 6 years old. She is now 19 and will be graduating from her high school this year. Marcus is married to Monica and they have four children. David and his girlfriend have a two year old daughter. Crystal lives at home with us. My Job I work in the Customer Accounting department as a Senior Business Analyst, within an Energy company. On the side, I used to run a booth at an Antiques Warehouse and still enjoy browsing but mostly for myself now. School When we first arrived in Canada I went to Runnymede for only one year - Grade 3. Then I went to Castlegar for 4,5 and 6. Both of these are in Toronto. Then we moved to Whitby for Grade 7 and then to Pickering for Grade 8 at Rouge Hill PS - now E.B. Phin after the wonderful principal who led the school for many years. In my first year in High School which was the first year of Dunbarton, I was elected Treasurer of the Student Council. The school was very small since it only had Grades 9, 10 and 11 at the time. Then when I was in Grade 12, through a fun & well fought election, I was elected Treasurer again. We had some wonderful teachers during my years at Dunbarton. Carson MacKenzie was my Art teacher and I still dabble in water colours and oils to this day. Mr. Strobble was the one Maths teacher that encouraged me to do my best & I was often top of my class. In Grade 12, Mr. Khan inspired a love of Chemistry that I won the school Chemistry award that year. And who could forget Mr. Hollingsworth who put his chair on top of his desk and taught us History from that lofty position! I failed History that year! There are so many others too that made my high school years the wonderful years they were!
