Linda's Story

Believe it or not, I have a 15-year-old daughter (Storey) still at home. Yeah, I waited 'til I was older to have kids and now I'm older and I have kids! She's GREAT, though, and I'm looking forward to seeing what the future holds for her. I have 3 other girls, sort of! Twins who are 25 now and each have 2 children. I had them as a surrogate and we remain close. Then, Brandi, MY 23-year-old, had a son on July 19, 2008 named Alric (German for ruler of all things). So, according to my math, that makes me a 5-time grandma! Good Lord! If I'd known I was gonna live this long, I'd have changed my oil more often! Well, I'm still a kid at heart. I'm still a hippie/cowgirl, still LOVE shooting guns and pool (National League No. 2 Player, 1979-83), life and the outdoors made me a survivalist, and kids, old people and animals have shown me what love really is. When I was 22, I went to Chicago and got a job at the Sun-Times as a currier, then a typesetter and after only a year and a half became a journeyman and eventually Union Steward for our shop in the CWPPU (Chicago Web Printers & Pressmen's Union). The benefit of having a great supervisor, being a quick learner and knowing how to self-promote landed me the position of Night Shift Supervisor of Production in the graphics department from 1977-1983. I was "on-the-job" trained & learned everything I could about pre-press production which enabled me to master just about any typesetting system there was (before the PC made them obsolete). When I came to Phoenix in 1984, I worked for a couple of places before starting my own graphics company in January, 1987. I worked my...Expand for more
tail off and was without question the top pre-press graphics shop in Phoenix, I'm almost as proud of that accomplishment as I am of my kids! I injured my back and had to "retire", but decided to manage/operate adult care homes (specializing in Alzheimer's residents), so I got my CNA/Care Home Supervisor's Certification and did that until 2000, when I went on full Social Security disability. I'm still Captain of a couple teams in the pool leagues, and act as tournament director occasionally. {I get my "bossy" fix from that.) I'm a staff writer for Billiards Table Talk and currently in consult about a new "rag" some of the "boys" are thinking of putting together. I'm trying to get away with mostly talking about it and not doing any actual work! Of course, if I mention my consultation fee ... LOL! Enough bragging (for now). I've been married 3 times! The first two ended in divorce, but the third left me a widow about 6 years ago. I'm not dating any one currently, nor am I looking. I figure if it happens, great. If not, probably better! I'm pretty hard to please and too old to fool, and too young to care! I like being friends and pride myself on being a good one in return. One of these days, I'll get some photos posted. I haven't changed much (well, unless you want to count the grey hairs, the few extra pounds and the "character" lines in my face!) Take care, for now, and forgive me if I don't get back for a while. I tend to get distracted and it may be a while before I get back. It's hotter than the hinges of Hades here in Phoenix, so I may have a heat stroke, too. Thanks for taking the time to read this.
