Linda's Story

Wonderful years at BCHS followed by, as many people experience, ups and downs. Each had a reason, a lesson learn and brought growth. One marriage failed, but from it came two wonderful sons, Joey and Chris. Married a Yankee transplant who has one son, David, and together we have one son, Tony. All the boys are happily married giving us seven wonderful grandchildren, two girls and five boys. My husband Dave is a NC State man with degrees in Industrial and Mechanical Engineering. He has worked all over the U.S. and has a number of patents, of which some have hopefully made your life better. He has worked for filtration in the Nuclear Power Plants; invented operating room air filtration systems and the cancer/burn bed for children at St. Mary's Hospital in California. Later, he gave up engineering to open his own company Pelican Yachts and built boats from 12 feet to 21 feet, rowing, outboards and sailing versions. Currently the doors have closed due to illness, but his hope is to build boats again. Right now he tinkers around with his antique outboard engine collection. We lived aboard our 50 foot Ketch for more than 17 years and had the opportunity to take a year off to cruise from California to the North Carolina Coast, where we settled and have been ever since. arina owners were very unsure as to "what kind of people we were". I guess the only real difference was we had salt water running through our veins instead of blood, but other than that, we claim to have started,"The Green" as we are very ecology oriented, especially the sailors. In California, between school, being a mom and working part time, I did a great deal of free lance writing and have continued with that over the years. Since 1980 until last year, I worked as a Legal Assistant doing Estates, Social Security Disability and worked on Personal Injury Claims. Now, not only am I free lancing, but making the attempts of my first novel, fiction - Christian based. When I am not doing that, I work with various cancer support groups and Reach for Recovery. Having cancer in 1992 and working with my husband who has been ill the last five years, I've learned the true meaning of: "You can't change the winds, but you can adjust the sails", so that is my gifting phrase to all of you who might need an uplifting sometime. My thoughts and heart so often drift back to the good old days at BCHS and it was because you, my friend, or friends that made it so special. Knowing that the old Central is being torn down, wouldn't it be wonderful if each of us who attended could obtain one brick? I would love to hear from you and until, God Bless and Keep You !!!
