Linda's Story
When I left Colville, I never looked back, but...I find myself curious about some of you. Maybe some of you are curious about me.... so here goes.
From sophomore year thru my second year of college I dated Scott Phillips -Colville High School /Class of '74 (Now -
Dr. Scott D. Phillips MD, FACP, FACMT). We dated for over 4 1/2 years (June 1976- Feb/1981)....3 of those years we were engaged to be married....long story short, complications, and our second pregnancy (we lost the first baby) we broke up (he left for Medical School, I wanted the baby).
Shortly after, I married a man from my college, Jim Kubota (born and raised in Metaline Falls, Washington). I was 1 year ahead of him in college (he started later, after he was out of the Navy). He said that I was his "love at first sight" , and he knew he wanted to marry me... even before he officially met me. After 3 months of knowing each other and 2 months of dating, we were married … still as strangers (he knew I was pregnant, but said he just wanted to be with me)! We have been living happily ever after (over 43 years now). We never had children of our own (He’s sterile).
We have our 1 daughter - Jennifer Takara Kubota (thanks to Scott Phillips -Biofather- verified by DNA). Jennifer will be 43 years old, in September 2024. She was born in Spokane Washington, Sept of 1981. We moved away after that. We have been living in Wisconsin (just north of Milwaukee) since 1982.
Jennifer obtained her Bachelor's degree at the University of Wisconsin -Madison. Then she went to Graduate School (for her double Doctorate) at the University of Colorado - Boulder. She graduated in 2010 with 2 PhD's in Social Psy...Expand for more
chology and Neuroscience (she is researching and mapping the brain). She did her Postdoc, at both NYU and Harvard. She was a research faculty member and lived in NY city for 4 years! She joined the faculty in Psychology and Integrative Neuroscience. She’s now a Doctor and a Tenured Professor at the University of Delaware. We are incredibly proud of her!! She is the joy of both of our lives!
My husband and I both graduated from college with degrees in Echocardiography. We both work in Cardiology. I am an Echocardiography Technologist / Diagnostic Cardiac and Vascular Sonographer. I am a specialist in Cardiac and Vascular Imaging. (My husband is also). I spend my days imaging the inside of patients' hearts..in motion..and interpret their cardiac disease states. My career has been very rewarding. I am finally out of the hospital setting and into the clinic setting. No more taking call, working evenings, weekends, and holidays. Life has become more normal - about time - with more time for family and home. My husband and I have been "empty nesters" for quite a while. We currently have 2 dogs - Alaskan Malamute's. With our daughter grown and gone, the dogs have become our "children". We finally have more time for them and ourselves.
So.....life is good.....things turned out great....couldn't ask for more! Hope the same has become of all of your lives. I may not remember each of you personally -but I do remember Colville. I guess it's about time I looked back. Thanks for all the "memories". If you're still curious, see my pictures. All my best,
Linda Kubota (Yates)
