Lisa Ann's Story

Life I was married for 10 yrs.,my son,Colbie,is out of High School(the last SCOTSMEN) and he was going to college down in Keene, TX. at Southwestern Adventist University.I'm medically discharged from the Oklahoma Air National Guard out of Tulsa;I've been in for 14 & 1/2 yrs.I was working at the Pentagon during the anthrax scare, just after the plane crash.I've been to Canada, and several other states, about 41 states all together, and Denmark.I had a bad military accident, back in 1999;had to fight for the military to fix my neck. I have a neck made out of metal now. I will always love my country, state, and city, to the death, after seeing and learning all that I have. I have had some poems published, I am going to try my hand at writing some ethnic Christian story books, did some samples, sent them out to friends and they were loved. I am an Adventist by faith now, after 4 yrs. of researching and after reading "Rome's Challenge" and a few other documents written by the catholic church.I make the monthly birthday cakes for our church members of about 720+, I'm an Adventurer instructor for our 3rd graders, I help with registration during of Bible Seminars. I own my own home up next to Grand Lake, w/ 6 acres. I love gardening, horse back riding, white water rafting, and dancing still and am looking into start Ballroom Dance lesson sometime this Fall or Winter. I am still the same funny, character that I was in school, haven't changed none; just a bit more knowledgeable about the world now. I had a little fun modeling linger`e a few year ago.I was selected into the American Legion, which is a great honor, for it is hard to be picked for it. I am a member of the Disabled American Veterans Association, because I have an 100% disability rating through the Veterans Administration. Though I try to stay in control of my disabilities, instead of letting them control me. I am always found clowning around with friends from time to time. I miss hearing the name McClain Scots around town. I am now a Certified Service Officer for the American Legion and I'm also, the Legion's 1st Black-female Commander, in the state of Oklahoma. I was also a bugler for the AVR- American Volunteer Reservist, I play TAPS at military funeral services, and go to school and businesses and teach about the Star Spangled Banner song, the folding of Ole' Glory- the U.S.Flag and other historic things. So, if there is any of you, who were in the military or spouse is or was and , you're having problems of any nature concerning the Veterans Administration; stop by the American Legion Post 1; and we'll see what needs to be done to help you. I love this opportunity to help other military members to keep them from having the same problems I did with the military. It doesn't matter which branch you were in, just stop by and chat. There is a lot of laws and rules out there that can trip you up if you don't know which form to fill out or what you need to ask for. And if you were in the military on active duty during a war time, you really need to join the American Legion for the benefits. Just check out the American Legion online as see what is offere...Expand for more
d to their members and also check out Veteran's Advantage online and become a member. Well, that's enough of that. Hope to see some of you soon. I have now been asked to be on the Mayor's Veterans' Advisory Board. It has been a dream of mind to help not only just veterans and their families, but also my fellow service men and women and their families and this is my chance to do. We have opened up a private area out at the TIA (Tulsa International Airport), just for them to have a place to go to, to find out information and make possible contact to their family members who are serving away from home. I do believe that the Lord has allowed me to go through so many changes in my life to strengthen me and to let me see how best to help others come to understand all He has done in each of our lives. I have decided for the 2009 year, that I will get completely healthy, I'm tire of being sick and tired. I'm completely changing what I put into my body, both mentally, physically and spiritually. It's time to be ready for when He comes back to get us. I was Female Veteran of the Year for 2007-2008, but in 2009 I shared the honor with another veteran and won for the state of Oklahoma, and Those of you who are veteran's need to come on down and join the Legion. And make sure it's the one on 8th Street, we have BINGO on Mondays and Thursday nights, Steak dinners on Friday nights, the club is opened everyday 2pm -11pm, Sundays is NASCAR or Football or Basketball (whatever sports season it just happens to be at that time), there is a meal also. All you need is to be on Active Duty for 90 days during any war time and it can be stateside or abroad, a copy of your DD214 and $32.00 once a year, but there are plenty of benefits to come along with membership. We have our meetings every 1st & 3rd Tuesdays of the month dinner at 6pm, meeting follows' right afterwards, usually last about 30-60 minutes. Come on down there's chair w/ your name on it. See you there!!! I was selected to go to the American Legion National College, in Indianapolis, back in October 2010. The 1st to go from my Post, this was an excellent experience for me to further my goals to one year maybe running for District or State office. I enjoy helping out other veterans, even though it's all volunteer and driving 4 hours round trip from my office in Tulsa, it's the least I can do to give back to the help the Legion gave me, when I needed the help. I also plan to do some mission work in the future for either the Share Him or Church in a Day programs.I have been traveling to churches, businesses, veterans' organizations to teach about natural home remedies around the country and state. Everything that i learn, I want others to know also,We also give out free medical DVDs, books, etc... As you can see, I'm not staying down, although there is no pay in this, but I am getting paid for all of this; by hearing the stories of those that have been helped by whatever contact we have had, that was able to help them. This is rewarding in so many levels. We just had our elections down at the Legion, i am the assistant to the Chaplin, + my normal Americanism position.!
