Lisa's Story
Greetings from Fargo, North Dakota. Yes, there really is such a place, and I am happy to consider myself almost a native after living here for the past 12 years.
You all would know me as Lisa Waltz. After high school I attended Olivet College, where I met my husband, Greg Cook. I graduated with a major in English (surprise, surprise) and a minor in Journalism with an emphasis in Radio Broadcasting.
Greg and I got married in 1987 and graduated from college in 1988. We moved to Lansing where Greg got his PHD in Chemistry from MSU and I worked at a radio station.
In 1994 we moved to the San Francisco Bay area so Greg could complete his postdoctoral studies at Stanford. We lived there for 2 years (we call it our two-year vacation) and then moved to Fargo in the summer of 1996 when Greg was offered a position teaching Chemistry at North Dakota State University. After surviving our first winter, which happened to be the infamous year of blizzard after blizzard and then the 100 year flood in the spring, we realized that it couldn't get much worse and decided we liked it here. :-)
Our only child, Spencer, was born on July 31, 1997, which makes him 11 going on 21. We are getting ready to experience ...Expand for more
the joys of middle school as he enters public school this year after attending a private Montessori school up until now. He is going to play the French Horn in band, and we would be proud if he turned into as big of a band geek as we both were in school. We both loved our band friends (well most of them I guess) and think there are a lot worse people to hang out with.
I worked for Great Plains Software in Human Resources until they were acquired by Microsoft, and then worked for Microsoft until about a year ago when I actually found the courage to leave the corporate world and fulfill my dream of working from home. I now work as an independent contractor doing medical transcription from home and I love it!
Greg and I love our home here in Fargo and the friends we have made. We enjoy wine (a lot!) and Greg is the president of the local chapter of the American Wine Society.
So that is my story. I don't get back to Michigan much, although my family is still right where I left them 24 years ago. It's hard to believe it has been so long. It is kind of interesting to check out others on this site, but I don't intend to pay for a membership. I'd love to hear from old friends. Look me up on Facebook.
