Lisa's Story

Hello, everyone who remembers me. So after we all got split up, I ended up at Henry high school. Absolutely hated it and then went off to North and have a diploma from there. After that I staggered for a little bit trying to figure out what I wanted to do Was looking into college but I wanted to make money. So I went into the workforce started selling lady shoes in the IDS Crystal Court. I tell you what if you can sell lady shoes with a smile on your face you can do anything. Lol. I did that for three years then I worked for Marsden and ABM cleaning offices. Was good money at the time, but felt wasted away. Then I went to Horst and got a certificate in estilogy. I doubt if I spelled that right. But it’s the study of skin and light massage and make up while I was doing that, I was also shining shoes with the lady who started her own shoe shine business. She had Shoe Shine Stands in about six skyways downtown Minneapolis. After I graduated from Horst, I worked for Saks fifth Avenue in their beauty salon. You know I was making...Expand for more
way more money, shining shoes than I was doing facials in an upscale salon. So I worked in the salon for about a year and a half and went full-time to the shoe shine stand. Absolutely love the business. I’m still in it. 31 years, I work in the IDS building. I got married in 1997. We have a beautiful girl/young lady. Got divorced in 2018. And loving single life. It’s so funny when you’re in high school, that seems to be your whole world. But when you’re done with high school, you see a different side to life . It’s so important to know that each and everyone of us matter. No matter what we’ve been through. Know that you can overcome anything and keep moving and keep learning. You’re never too old to learn. For those of you who remember me if you get a chance, come by the IDS and ask where the shoe shine stand is it’s my second home I’m there. It would be great to see you. I hope everyone has a happy new year. And start doing things that you have dreamed about and for whatever reason just didn’t do. Don’t make excuses. ❤️
