Lisa's Story
Life
Jason and I moved away from Maryland in 1996, that year we fell in love, moved to North Carolina, bought our first house, and got married. We will be married 10 awesome years in August 2006. In April 1999, our son was born and he has made everyday just a little bit better than yesterday. My parents have also moved to North Carolina, so for the past ten years my life has had very few negatives and many, many positives!!
School
I actually loathed school and if you remember me, then you will remember that my attendance was poor, to say the least. I am sure that Mr. Simms could attest to my dislike of attending school. Do it all over again, my only thought here is, Why? The people that inspired me most, Ms. Jameson(English), Mrs. Langenbacher(Spanish), Ms. Hiland(Biology), Mr. Troy(Art), Mr. Warfield(I spent sooo much time in his office), and Mr. Pender(from the Board of Education). Wherever you guys are, I hope you know that I thank you from the bottom of my heart for always giving me a chance and for seeing through my exterior. A special thank you to Mr. Warfield and Mr. Pender, without both of you I know that my life would not be what it is today.
College
Believe it or not, college has been awesome. I love being a college student and if I did not desire to have a paying job, I would be a full-time college student, probably forever. I have only attended two community colleges, but I have learned so much about myself and my abil...Expand for more
ities from the experience. My GPA is 3.94, I am an active member of Phi Theta Kappa, and I will set for a national exam in September 2006 to hopefully obtain my credentials and I will graduate with an associates degree and hopefully transfer to a four-year school to further my education. The colleges in North Carolina are the best and I can't wait to take advantage of those opportunities. You truthfully are never to old to learn!
Workplace
I work at a Cancer Center that is part of a hospital authority comprised of, an acute care hospital, a mental health facility, a comprehensive rehabilitation facility, a state-of-the-art surgery pavilion, a complete outpatient same day hospital, and the cancer treatment center. I have been employed here for 10 years in various positions, but I have found what I truly enjoy at the cancer center in the cancer registry. When I get my credentials, I will be a Certified Tumor Registrar, and I will be helping to make a difference in cancer care and data research, all in hopes of one day having a cure!
Military
Let me brag on my wonderful husband, who was in the United States Army. He was stationed at Fort Drum in Watertown, NY. He was in the 2nd Battalion 14th Infantry Charlie Company 1st Platoon. He had tours of duty just about everywhere, but the most memorable and where he was decorated in several areas would have to be his service in Somalia, Africa 1993.
