Lisa's Story

Life Hey '87 Huskies, It's me Lisa Oliver-Smith, I'm currently living in Hot-lanta (Atlanta-Stone Mountain, GA. to be exact). I'm currently separated from my husband of 16 years , an I've been in Ga. for 1 & 1/2 years. I have 4 beautiful children; Rashaad Ali 14, Jamaal Akeem 13, Aliyah Rabiyah 10, and Zahra Hadiyah-Margaret 7. I'm an Instructor at Atlanta Technical College teaching Pharmacy Technology, I went to college in Tennessee, and have been working in the Pharmacy Field for over 18 years. It's funny that when I was ready to throw in the towel on being a life long CPhT. (Certified Pharmacy Technician) I was blessed by God the opportunity to teach what I was tried of doing. (KARMA) I love my job because it allows me to help others understand the importance of working in a Pharmacy and dealing with Physicans, Patients, and the public. Back in late 2002, I was diaognois with an aggressive form of thyroid cancer, and since had 4 surgeries and radiation treatments. Legally the doctors can't say that I'm cured until 5 years remission. But I believe in my God; All praises are due!! I go in for follow-up testing etc. every 4-6 months. But everyday is a day worth rejoicing. I'm also embarking on another career move, for years people have been asking me to do modeling , so I finally took the offers, I'll be going to New York this summer, so wish me luck :) Also I just started a family owned Contruction Company called "Armanos Construction & Bldg. It's in its infancy stage right now, but remember the name (smile). Me and my family vacation and are building a villa (which we will time-share out) in the Dominican Republic, My (soon to be ex- husband) will be moving there, so my children and I will spend alot of time there, it's a beautiful country, If any one is interested in visiting (or time-share) please reach me, We go there atleast 3-4 times yearly. I'm looking forward to hearing from any Huskies or any one who also attended Emerson Middle and Holcomb Elementary. What's up about a 20 year reunion , If anyone has info please let me know, or need help starting one. Peace School I was what we called a preppy, you know a little different from the crowd. But I had lots of fun in school. I was on the championship girl tennis team, the marching band, and also in the choir, I also did a year or two in JROTC. I admit it I had a huge crush on Mr. Mccallister, the band/choir director. Some of my favorite teachers were Ms. Holder (Tennis), Mr. Ging, Ms. Orr, Ms. Weis, and My girl the Diva of Math Ms. Jean-Pierre. I also enjoyed My drafting classes with Mr. Pacini. Hey remember the "Hole in the Wall" down stairs. And skipping in Mr. Sikes office and on the third floor stairwe...Expand for more
ll. ( I also had a crush on Chris Sikes) I was sad the last time I visited Redford in 91 or 92 an it looked like a prison. I would love the see my fellow Huskie from 87, Holla at ya girl ! College I went to a small christian college in Cleveland Tennesse, It was basically on a dairy farm. A big shock coming from Detroit, I went there because my fiance (we never married, but are still good friends) was there studying to become Minister. Workplace I wanted to be an Ob/Gyn. so I was advise to take Pharmacy Technology at Crockett Tech. I didn't stay in the program but, the little knowledge that I recieved help me the get my first job at Perry Drugs (Remember Schoolcraft & Telegraph) I worked there for about 5 years until they changed to Rite-Aid, then I went on to Walgreens. Recieving my Certification along the way. All together I worked at least 18 years in the Pharmacy Field. usually as Head or Senior Technician, and the funny thing about it is that I was accepted into the Pharmacy School at U of Mi. Ann Arbor, and never got the change to go (to busy having babies) but I know,as much if not more then the Pharmacist that I've worked with, especially the new graduates, They where always asking me about the drugs, and procedures, but that was a good thing because it forced me to keep up to date on the Pharmaceutical field. And that's why I love my job because from my experience I'm able to tech my students all of which I knew and then some. The only difference is that my students intern (do clinical-hands on training) at CVS pharmacies, It's all good. During the summer I tech Pharmacy Assisting to teenagers in the Atlanta Workforce Program, a program set up by the Mayor of Atlanta Ms. Shirley Franklin. that gives underprivleged teens a trade in which, they can find work. I really enjoy working with the teen's an they appreciate the time (on the side) I give to them. Teen's just sometimes need someone to listen to them and give them a chance. I love them, It also helps that I'm a mother of 2 teenage boys, so that helps me as well. If any of you have any questions about my job or anything give me a holla. Military I enlisted in the US Army in 1990. I did my bootcamp training at Ft. Dix, New Jersey, then my AIT (Advanced Indiviual Training 71L) at Ft. Jackson, South Carolina. When I return I got married and pregnant soon after, Dessert Storm broke out. But I was never deployed I was honorably Discharged by the Army in 1996. I had a lot of fun in the service and made many friends from around the country. I lost touch with my Army Buddy Pfc. Sarah DeBose (Taylor)at last contact she was married with 4 children living in Alabama, if anyone know of her please contact me!
