Lisa's Story
Life
After graduating in 1973, I got married. We just celebrated our 41st year of that crazy little thing called love! God blessed us with two precious children, both girls. Our years together have taken us to Houston, Galveston, Clear Lake, Houston again, LaGrange, and now Lake Jackson.
After high school I worked as a secretary for 3 years while Sonny finished his degree and settled into a job. Then I started full-time at UofH. We lived in Clear Lake so I finished up at UHCLC. I worked as a CPA several years (bet you didn't know those people are wild!) and later (in my early 30s) earned a BA in Voice from Rice. What a crazy time! I lived in Houston with my 2-year old during the week and went home to LaGrange on weekends. The third year I commuted (100 miles one way). Two more years for a masters degree was out of the question, so I took my BA and ran home. Fast forward three months... we moved to Lake Jackson; a very reasonable daily commute to Houston. It's been said that "timing is everything." Alas, so true.
Since then I have stayed busy raising my girls which has included 9 years of homeschooling. Our oldest graduated from Southwestern University in 2006 and lived in California before moving back to Texas in 2010. She works in marketing and has her own writing/editing business (English...Expand for more
Lit. major). Our youngest daughter has been working as a Licensed Massage Therapist for a year.
Through the years, I have enjoyed performing at our local fine arts center in concerts and musical plays, as well as directing a children's chorus at church and teaching voice lessons. I would have liked (and would still like) to perform more. It is the one thing that feeds my soul. It also takes a lot of energy which is running short these days ...to everything there is a season...
Thanks for staying in touch. Till next post...
Make each day count
Update August, 2011
Coming up on the anniversary of Tanya's passing. I miss her so much. My daddy passed away suddenly in April, 2011, after a rapid six-week decline in health which turned out to be cancer. He was a wonderful man and father and is missed by so many people. My husband is still responding to hormone treatment; feels good but had to retire due to cognitive side effects of the treatment for prostate cancer. My married daughter and her husband moved to Houston from California last December, and we are enjoying having them close by again. My youngest will be completing massage therapy certification in December, 2011. Life is still good despite our losses, and we are grateful for what each new day brings.
Love to all... til next post...
