Lisa's Story
Life
Hi all,
After graduation from Bismarck High School in 1977, I goofed off for a few years working as a secretary and carpet layer (at the now defunct, Dynamic Homes). I had a sweet, cute little boy, Ryan and went back to school at Bismarck Junior College. After 3 years of deciding what I wanted to do, I graduated with an Associates of Arts degree. Then the next logical step was to go to NDSU to finish my studies in Nutrition. It was there that I met my husband Allen, in Edna Hulm's Food Science class. Within a year we were blessed with the addition of another little boy, Benjamin. So, miraculously after 4 years I graduated with a degree in Food & Nutrition with an option in Dietetics. Al graduated from Moorhead State College with a degree in Hotel, Motel, Restaurant Management and Business.
Al started his current job as Food Service Supervisor at the State Penitentiary, where he has put in his time of 19 years, before I graduated.
After I graduated, we bought a house and moved to Mandan, ND, where we still live. My first job out of college was as the dietitian for the North Dakota Dairy Council. Next, I ...Expand for more
went to work for the Custer District Health Unit as a Public Health Dietitian and WIC Nutritionist. Currently, I am working for the Bone & Joint Clinic where I have worked for the past almost 7 years.
We are very active and try to ride our bikes to work as often as possible. In warmer weather we ride our bikes 60-70 miles a day on the weekends. And participate in CANDISC (Cycle Across North Dakota in Sakajawea Country) every summer. We also ride in a bike tour that travels from Iowa to Minnesota & Wisconsin in June. Also we love to canoe as often as possible and have made a few trips to the Boundary Waters in Minnesota.
When I'm not biking or canoeing I still love to run and have participated in many races, marathons and half-marathons. Also, I rollerblade with my Mother in the Prairie Rose games.
Currently we are learning what "the empty nest syndrome" is since both our boys have graduated from high school. Ryan is 24 and Ben is 20.
It seems strange both the boys are out of high school and it's been 30 years since I've graduated! Where, oh where does the time go? Hope to talk to you all soon!!!
