Lisa's Story

I'm recently divorced from a 27 year marriage to a man from the Middle East. Very happy being back in my home land and close to Utah(in Idaho). WOW from the Middle East back to Idaho. What a switch! I've always wanted to be a anthropologist. My family and friends thought that was a strange idea. As it turns out, they were half right, I moved abroad and became a librarian instead. I'm not your typical stereotype librarian. But, My passion and interests still lie within people and other cultures around the world. To start my day off at work overseas, I would sit in front of my computer, which by the way overlooks the Mediterranean Sea and I drink a cup of Earl Grey tea. Now, at my current job with the Hidden Springs Library, I look forward to the weekends for a day ride on the motorcycle! And yes, that is me in the photo, no longer all covered up with a head scarf! lol The wildest thing I ever did in school was dating a guy from Iran; no one ever knew, except for a few close friends. He by the way was gorgeous!. He owned a cafe next to the U of U. I guess I've always had a thing for guys with dark complexions. If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have a cup of tea, a can of diet pepsi, and a chocolate bar to be able to deal with the day-to-day events(as I live in a very active and highly political hot spot in the world). My hero is my sister-in-law Jeanie. She has taught me kindness, forgiveness and respect. I've lived from the West coast to the East Coast of the United States. I've travelled many parts of the world. I lived 12 years in Doha, Qatar(for you who don't know were that is, it is next to Dubai and Saudi Arabia). I then moved on and now live in Lebanon. Yes, that is right the country LEBANON! I moved to be with my husband, who also is a native Lebanese and my three children(2 girls, 17 & 6 years old and 1 boy who is 14). I'm sure my classmates would be shocked to find out that I met and married a man from the Middle East and move abroad and traveled around the world. I have learned from my kids patients, patients and more patients! No, really, I've learned how to love, give and forgive and expect nothing in return. If you want respect from others, you must teach it to others. My curre...Expand for more
nt age is 48. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be in a wheel chair. I was so completely wrong! I hope to help eduacte people abroad about the importance of a library and the freedom to read what ever your heart desires. To learn about people from other parts of the world and to have tolerance, patients and respect for others and other cultures. To teach others that looks can be deceiving and not to judge a book by it's cover because you never know what's inside it! I don't know when I saw my old high school crush? The last time I think I saw him was 29 years ago in a mall with a pretty blonde girl attached to his side. My best friends (Korrie & Natalie) would tell you I'm adventurous and crazy at the same time, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as shy and calm. I'm still hip and up-to-date when it comes to fashion. Still waiting for that Mr. right guy to come along, if he is out there someone, a loving, compassionate, caring and respectful lady is looking for you! lol I would love to go back to college and finish my MLS(Master in Library Science) In 10 years, I hope to be watching my last child graduate from high school.. I'm going to get there by being vary patient and supportive.. My oldest school friend is Korrie Hess Sabbagh, who happend, by the way, to marry a man who is my husbands neighboor in Lebanon. We met in 9th grade and clicked instantly. She was the opposite of me; outgoing and outspoken. I love that in her. I think my old classmates would be shocked to find out that I moved far away across the world and married a man from Lebanon, converted to Islam and cover with the head scarf. Don't worry, I'm still the old me, calm and down to earth; up-to-date with fashion and very open minded and tolerant of others around the world. My first job was at The Salt Lake City Public Library, where I got paid $2.40 hour to shelf books. What I remember most about it is being able to look through all kinds of books; which really opened my eyes to the rest of the world.. I currently work at the Hidden Springs Library as a Librarian and love my job. And yest I absolutely LOVE riding Harley Davidson motorcycles! Just one of my newly dicsovered passions!
