lloyd's Story

left Muir 6/67. Went to work, Drafted 2/4/69. Vietnam 10/27/69 to 09/17/71. Air Traffic Controller 4/77 to 8/1981 when the AO Reagan fired me and 12,500 other PATCO controllers. Married since 5/80 and she still keeps me around. 1 daughter with 1 grand daughter. Lots of dead end jobs, then went to work as Warranty Administrator at a Cummins Distributor 12/85 to 1/95 and got hit with a company wide downsizing. More dead end jobs followed. Returned to school and graduated with high honors with BA in History in June 1999. Worked as a sub teacher until 3/2003 and hated every minute of it. Hired By Lockheed in Palmdale,CA 4/2003 until lay off in 2/2010 due to end of DOD contract. Tough for older people to find a job especially right now. Getting VA Compensation for past 10 years and Disability SS since 9/2010. This past October 2012 was rated by the VA as 100%, which double the amount I get from they each month. The money from the VA is tax free, but to my surprise I have to pay income tax on SSDI. Bought a 1974 Corvette T Top. Needed a hole to throw money into and so far I have done just that. In Nov. 2010 vacation to New Zealand and Australia. Had some problem, but we did get to see and experience the Great Barrier Reef several times. Tina I will be going to England this May for 3 weeks. Being a Beatles fan going for several days to Liverpool and staying at the Hard Days Night Hotel. 9/2016 we are are in Maui. Having a great time. Tina and I spent a month in Italy in 2016 during October. Had a great time! My Dad, a true hero The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Hannah Bratcher, because she was my first girl friend.Meet her while at Franklin Elementary. She graduated from PHS in 67 also. If I won $100 million, I'd give 10% of it to Episcopal Church, then spend the rest on Veteran issues, wife and Vette. I pledged the US Army for 2 yrs, 7 months and 14 days and twenty hours. Anyway we did live in wood dorms. not too bad, except when the V C would send mortars in the middle of the night. pretty thing to see or be in. My current age is 72 I have worked hard all life long. It is only in the last several years I have come to realize I could have been so much more. But we can not turn the clock back. Compared to so very many others we have it great. Update 3-20-2016 Ken Newell, my estranged brother died 1-31-2015. The Vette project is very near the end. The Vette is done! Since we have gone to England we have gone to Mexico several times. Tina has gone to Ireland for 10 days also. This past January 2016 we spent two weeks in Tahiti. Ten days was on a Wind star cruise. WOW it was great! Come to the reunion next year, I will tell you all about it. Come this October 2016, we will be spending about a month in Italy. First Rome 3 days, then another Wind Star cruise for 7 day and return to Rome for 2 day. After which we take a 14 day Cosmos tour start up to see Northern parts, back down to Pompey and then back to Rome. Then spend 5 days more in Rome area. Totally stoked. Looking forward to the class reunion July 2017. It has been sometime since been to this site. So here is a update. In Dec 2018 I was diagnosed with multiply melanoma caner. It is a bone cancer. It attributed to exposure to agent orange in Vietnam. I have lower numbers and my cancer doctor at VA is happy. The down side I have back pain for 2 1/2 years. It was discovered that 2 of my vertebrates are completely gone earlier this year. I will have back surgery at Loma Linda University Oct 20 and 22. I also have a bone spur in my spinal cord which is why 2 dates. I will be in recovery, then in ICU 3-4 days. Then 5-6 days in hospital. After which 2 weeks in rehab. This year well, challenging for all of us. I'm apprehensive about surgery because of the high risk factor. Being diabetic, 72 years old and other matters, I try and keep a stiff upper lip and calm. We have a cruise planned, but 2 times canceled. Seems we all have given up a lot, but all we can do is what scientist and the medical professionals tell us. I hope you all vote no matter who you vote for. Many gave their lives for the privilege of voting.

My nightly night cap.
This is picture of me with Christmas mask Santa gave me.
Seems strange not having the Rose Parade to view on channel 5. Anyone have this feeling?
