Lois's Story
Lois Siegel is a filmmaker, photographer, casting director, writer and musician in Ottawa, Canada. She plays the fiddle, bodhran, and spoons in The Lyon Street Celtic Band, Celtic North, Sens Unique (French Canadian), and Franglais (English/French). Lois started Siegel Entertainment, representing other musicians. She taught Video Production at the University of Ottawa, and Film Production at Concordia University, Montreal and Creative Arts and English at John Abbott College, Montreal. Siegel was Nominated Part-Time Professor of the Year, University of Ottawa by the Department of Communication, 2011.
Lois Siegel has been recognized as Notable Alumni by Ohio University, USA under the category Arts and Entertainment. Genie Award recipient for Best Short Documentary (Film: Stunt People), Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television, 1990.
She's was formerly on the National Press Club of Canada Board of Directors and the Executive Board of the Canadian Grand Masters Fiddling Association.
Her documentary films cover a range of subjects: "Baseball Girls" (women who play softball and baseball), "Lip Gloss" (female impersonators), "Strangers in Town" (albinos), and "Stunt People" (The Fournier Family performing stunts for films). She is currently working on "Seeing Double," a film about identical twins. She shot footage at Twinsburg, Ohio and at the Twins Parade, Montreal, Quebec.
Lois was the Casting Director for many films, including the alternative-drama "Family Motel," a co-production between Instinct Films, Montreal, and The National Film Board of Canada. The film is a sympathetic look at what happens to families when, in spite of all their efforts, the rent is too high, and their salaries are too low.

d to photograph The Rolling Stones 2005 concert in Ottawa. She currently works as a freelance photographer covering everything from embassy parties for Diplomat Magazine, social events for fundraisers, corporate assignments and private parties.
Lois was named one of the Capital City's Top 50: People who are shaping the future of the National Capital, by Ottawa Life Magazine, 2002. She is listed in "Who's Who in Canadian Film and Television."
Oxygen, the women's TV network in the States, aired Lois' documentary film " Baseball Girls on the network 2000 - 2002. Oxygen is partially owned by Oprah Winfrey.
Three of her former students work in Hollywood. Steve Campanelli was camera and Steadicam operator on most of Clint Eastwood's films, including "The Changeling" nominated for an Oscar 2009; Glen MacPherson was cinematographer on "Exit Wounds," "16 Blocks," "Rambo IV," "Final Destination 4" and Pompii. Steve Surjik directed "Wayne's World 2."
She taught a three-day film animation workshop at Douglas Anderson High School of the Arts, Jacksonville, Florida and leads film animation workshops at the World Arts Film Festival in Jacksonville. She has often been a guest speaker at St. Andrews Presbyterian College, Laurinburg, North Carolina where she shows her films and speaks at the Writers' Forum.
Lois worked on the documentary "Gambling Boys" about teens and Internet gambling and as a photographer on a textbook "Cuisine Foundations for Le Cordon Bleu Culinary Institute. Eating Profiteroles au chocolat is really hard work... She wrote a screenplay for a short film on Alzheimer's and was Unit Publicist and Set Photographer on the film "Eddie" - The Sleepwalking Cannibal. 2016. She worked as Set Photographer on the feature film "His Master's Voice," a Canada- Hungary co-production.
Lois also worked on the Music Video for Men Without Hats: "Where do the boys go." In the film, she did the opening photos - animation of Ivan and the Snowman,Montreal, 1984.
Her photograph of famous photographer Yousuf Karsh was recently purchased by Post Canada.
