Lolly's Story
Life
I actually started working for Kaiser at the age of 18! at 1924 Broadway in Oakland as a "keypunch operator" and their Data Processing Center, moving up the laddder there to controller of that department. Went on to wed one of my classmates, Otto Buehler, who died a sudden death at an early age. We had two sons, both now living in Roseville, where I have just moved to myself. I went into nursing after having my children, worked a lengthy career at Kaiser in Vallejo, retired, became sick, bored, and went back to work. Now that I have moved, I am working in Auburn at a renal dialysis clinic. Something new. I remember a teacher coming into the Kaiser Emergency Room....she had been my social studies teacher at Vallejo Jr. High and was very old. I visited with her, and as I left her bedside, she said...."remember, never quit learning." So that is what I am doing. I picked up my roots, moved to a new area, mostly to be nearer my sons and grandchildren, and started a whole new life and area of nursing. And believe me I am still learning. This brain, as old as it is, still has what it takes to learn. If anyone is out there that remembers me and the crazy good old days of Vallejo (I lived there since I was 6 months old!) drop me a note. ...Expand for more
E-mail is about the only way I communicate. Snail mail is out. And now a days there seems to be no time for telephone calls either. Stay well, stay happy, Lolly.
PS...just quit the job in Auburn. Not my niche. Shall move on to the next adventure. To be continued...
Well, now working for Kaiser again. Seems that is where I fit best. This time at their Sacramento Facility. It is a
great job thus far.
2012. Retired, again. Do not like this part of my life so far. Miss friends from working. Many family have left, moved on to better resting grounds. Seems strange to live so far away from Vallejo, now.
School
I was all over the map!
Kindergarden at Highland through half of first grade. Then to a one room school house in Green Valley while we were having a home built in Fairfield. Fairfield elementary 2nd through part of 5th. Moved back to Vallejo, part of 5th at Stephan Manor while waiting for another home. Moved to Texas St., then finshed grammar school at Highland where I started! Attended Vallejo Jr High, Vallejo Sr. High, was the first class that started as 10th grade, and graduated from there l960. Married, had children, went back to school, received a Bachelors in Nursing (BSN), and did part of my Masters but never completed it.
