Lonnie's Story

Since leaving DUHS in '67, I have tried to make my life as meaningful and as fullas possible. I went to Pasadena Nazarene College for a year majoring in Sociology then to Reedley College for a year majoring in Aeronautical Technology. After the floods in '69 I got into the Tulare County Volunteer Firefighters. This wasn't enough so I was employed by the California Division of Forestry. I spent 15 years in Tulare County until I promoted to Captain in San Benito/Monterey Ranger Unit. I did all facets of the job except for Law Enforcemen...Expand for more
t. I then flew Air Attack at Fresno Airbase. Flying over a fire directing several air tankers and helicopters was one of the most exciting things I could have ever done. In 1999 I was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease,a neuromuscular disease that is incurable, but is managable. I had Deep Brain Stimulator surgery in 2006 and that one sugery has been a godsend. It has given me a new lease on life. I have been married to my wife, Paula, for 38 years. Anyone that could stay married to me for that long has got to be an angel.
