Lora's Story
Hey y'all.. Here is a bit of my thrilling journey through life.. After i graduated from BCHS, i worked for a couple of years (at a dry cleaning plant in Saskatoon, SK) to earn some money to put myself through post secondary school. I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (majoring in Psychology) from the U.of S in 1988. From there i attended U of M in Winnipeg, MB and obtained a Bachelors in Medical Rehabilitation (Occupational Therapy). On one of my last summer internships in Saint John, New Brunswick, I met my soulmate (Mark Williams) who is a Maineiac (that is what they call people from Maine). He lives up to it!! Anyways, after i graduated as an OT, i worked at City Hospital in Neurological Rehab for over a year. In 1993, Mark and I took 6 months off of work and hiked the Appalachian Trail (from Georgia to Maine) . It had been a lifelong dream of Mark's and I loved the idea of such a great challenge! We decided that if we could hike together for that amount of time under various circumstances and not kill each other, we would get married.. We made it! and at the end of that journey i decided i would move to the US, wherever the best paying job would take me. I landed an awesome job in Panama City Beach, Florida and absolutely LOVED it!.. After i worked there for a year, the company i worked for moved me to Boca Raton to help set up an OT dept at a facility there and then moved me to Morristown, TN to set up another OT dept. beautiful area to this day. We married in 1994 at the most lovely ranch near the French community of St. Denis, SK (Champetre County). We are avid travelers, hikers, organic gardeners and love everything nature. Our family consists of four legged kids ( 3 dogs and a cat.. Blossom June, Maisy Jane, Sid the Kid and Theodore). We live on 12 beautiful acres with wooded trails and a patch of field that contains our large garden and a small orchard. I left healthcare in 2021 as i felt i could no longer do the job i loved doing and remain morally sound (because of the increasing productivity vs outcome based healthcare model), Now i am a full time artist, working with elements of nature so i feel at home in this field. I spend a lot of time hiking and beachcombing searching for natural items to add to my mixed media art. I am madly in love with my life, my family and most of all our most amazing Creator and God (the Master of all artists). My work keeps me close to Him and that brings me much gratitude and joy.. Mark and i have inherited a wild blueberry field and 48 wooded acres in the coastal village of Brooklin, Maine (where his parents grew up). This is my very favorite place on earth! We have a beautiful plan of building a small cottage there and harvesting blueberries and simply enjoying the sea ( a mere 10 minute walk from our property).. What a dream, eh?
