Lori's Story
Life
Livin and luvin Cape Cod life. I am happily married to my best friend, Adam, for 11 years. He and I have a total of 5 children. We have 2 beautiful grandchildren and 2 weener dogs. We live a fairly simple life, yet one filled with much activity and definite fun in the summertime here on the Cape. I am a very blessed person. I am surrounded by many wonderful people that i consider family. I have friends that are crazy, funny, some aggravating and nuts but I love 'em all to death.
I am in the world of recovery after finding myself addicted to narcotic pain medication. After having emergency back surgery twice, 4 months of hard rehabilitation and the pain that went along with both, I found myself unable to "kick" the pain medication and also realized I was abusing the medication. I checked myself into rehabilitation and got off of all of the medication. I am very thankful my addiction never carried me beyond the prescription medications. Many find themselves using heroin, cocaine and other "street drugs" when they cannot get prescriptions. I have learned to not judge others because of their addiction. I believe every human should be allowed a chance to overcome their addiction. I do not think addicts should be looked down on because of their addiction. There isn't an addict alive that "chooses" to use....it is a necessity, until intervention. By the grace of God I am no longer an active addict. Unfortunately, I have lost some of my family and a few friends because of the ignorance that surrounds addiction. I have found this to be the case with many of those I know in recovery.
I am Nana to 2 of the world's most awesome kiddos. I was blessed to coach my daughter-in-law through labor and the delivery of my grandson, Tylur, in Sept. 2005. My son and I were both right there when he popped out and I can honestly say I have never felt the way I did during those moments. Brooke was born in January 2008 and is the sweetest...Expand for more
lil' angel. BOth of my grandkiddos have stolen my heart. Although there are many miles between us, I love them tremendously.
My son was injured in Iraq in August 2006. He has had back surgery twice and may have to undergo more. He does very well considering the injury and the horrid things he saw in war. I am very proud of his service to his country yet very disappointed that the United States, in general, has NO CLUE what these soldiers go through OR how little they are compensated when they give their bodies and ability to work for the sake of freedom. I will say no more.
My daughter, who is 22, is my magic. She is a gentle soul with a heart of gold. She is also my friend. She lives down South and we talk daily. She works in retail and is going to school.
I have 3 stepchildren too. Ryan is a marine in San Diego. Amy is 17 and lives with us full time. She's a great kid who loves to sing. She is very musically inclined and just an overall great kid. Lindsay is 12 and is with us every weekend. She too is a great kid.
All-in-all I am a blessed person. We have wonderful friends that are more like family as well as a church family that are just like family as well. We are active in the choir and many other activities in our church. We are fortunate to live in one of the most beautiful places in this world, with a huge family of people that love us just the way we are and even when we aren't so lovable. They are supportive in times of difficulty and understand that none of us are perfect. I am constantly amazed that these people love me despite some of the stupid things I have done. What else could a person ask for? I am loved.
I enjoy hearing from my "classmates" and visit many of you on my very rare visits back to MS. For the most part, I stay on Cape Cod, mind my own business and pray others will do the same. I would love to hear from my classmates and others.
God bless each of you.
