Lori's Story
Life
Hello to all, Well where do you start? After high school I didn't really know what I wanted to do. I went to Chabot College for a while and on a whim took several aviation classes and decided to work for the airlines. I worked as a flight attendant on a helicopter. Weird I know. This was a Sikorski S61 26 passenger military converted chopper. It was called SFO Helicopter and flew around the SF bay. I worked for them until they liquidated in 1976. I then worked as a ticket agent for Transamerica Airlines out of the Oakland Airport. They are a charter airline. Well evidently I got bored so I moved to Lake Tahoe in July of 1979. It was then that my life took its strange twist. I kind of stumbled into law enforcement and ended up making it my life career. I retired after 22 years in February of 2005. During the time that my husband and I were working full time as Sheriff's Sergeants, I guess we thought that we had too much other time on our hands and decided to start a business called "Sierra Custom Embroidery". It was just my husband and me working out of our house. This was embroidering logos on clothing, hats, etc. We even did boat seats and duffle bags. Word of mouth was so strong that we never even had to advertise. There was so much work we had trouble keeping up. We would work all day at the cop shop and then come home and start the orders for our business. Most nights we were up until 12 or 1 am. Finally we came to our senses a...Expand for more
nd sold the business in 2004. It was bittersweet though because I knew the actual cost of clothing and how much businesses marked their inventory up. It was hard to pay full price for anything after that. It served its purpose though because we met alot of people outside our chosen career path which is always good. I am now living in Reno and once again working for the airlines. I worked at the Reno/Tahoe International Airport as a ticket agent for America West Airlines. I ended up resigning in July of 2006. I was recently hired by Allegiant Air as a flight attendant working part-time. I went full time on July 1st.This seems to be working out well for me. I have been married twice, no children, although my husband, Steve, has two children from a previous marriage. They were 3 yrs and 6 yrs when we met. They are now 28 and 31 yrs. Our son has a son which yes, makes us grandparents. He is now five years old and it seems like I went back in time. They come to Reno frequently since they live up at the lake. My second husband and I have been married for 24 yrs. He also was in law enforcement and he retired a few years before me. He is the smart one and plays golf all the time at Lakeridge Golf Course here in Reno. I don't know why I thought I needed another job but we shall see how the coming years play out. I have five dogs and two cats (they must have made up for not having children). So life is good and I hope that it stays that way.....
