Lorraine's Story
Life
Grew up in Gaithersburg, MD. Lived in Montgomery Village until 1972 then moved to Frederick, Md where I graduated in 1975. Married in 1978 to Dan Stevens and had 2 wonderful daughters Kris (78) who is living in Nantes, France with her 7 old son, Elias (3rd grandchild) She graduated from U of AZ with a Bachelors degree in photojournalism. Beth (80), who married her red-headed fireman in November 07 and is mother to my other two grandchildren Grace (1st grandchild) and Max (2nd grandchild). Married to John Rutherford in 1995. We have a wonderful daughter together, Jennifer, who is 30 this year (don't do the math - she was before the wedding) - she is mother to my 4th and 5th grandchildren. Elise (age 10 and Waylon age 1 1/2) and is a single mom. We moved to Sevierville, TN in July 2002 after 9/11. (Too many friends died in NY and DC) and lived on what TN called a farm but (2 1/2 acres) with 2 timberwolves and 3 cats. Life there was great and the mountains (Smoky Mtns) were beautiful. Due to the economy and lack of jobs (layoffs equaled 25% unemployment there), we ended up selling and moving back to stay with parents (mine) in Martinsburg, WV. Guess the North knew we were coming because we were greeted with 51 inches of snow on our first trip with furniture that included highway closings and arguments with State Police (VA) over how far we should drive before getting off the highway. (I won - we trudged all the way to Spring Mills exit in Martinsburg and parked at the Walmart there...Expand for more
- 1/2 mile from parents home). After living in WV for 5 wonderful years and being a church admin in Shepherdstown, WV the mountains of TN called us all home. In 2016 we survived the Gatlinburg Great Smoky Mountains Wildfire on Nov. 28th. I worked with the Sevier County Humane Society to rescue animals that night (we saved all 65 at the shelter) and spent the next 4 months manning their donations tents and logistic issues. I am still active with them today. I also belonged to Gatlinburg Wildfire Survivors group and our mission was to hold our community leaders accountable for the deaths of 14+ people and loss of over 2000 homes and businesses. We also worked to help those who lost their homes and all worldly possessions in that devistating fire that night. (Yes - I am still a rebel and a trouble maker for a good cause - lol) Currently retired and playing Mimi to Jenny's kids. Would love to hear from everyone both at Gburg and Linganore. If any of you went to Montgomery Village Jr. High and can remember me from that long ago - drop a line. I have worked for the Government (Dept. of Army) and a mortgage company in MD, a Theatre show called "The Miracle". a company that does surveillance systems for aircraft both military and commercial in Hagerstown, MD., a Methodist Church and my biggest job - being MIMI to 3 wonderful grandhildren. Life has been good, not always easy, but I have no complaints, no regrets and have learned from all that I have done. Hope to hear from everyone soon!!!
