Lorraine's Story

Life I am an attorney in a suburb about 10 miles northeast of Los Angeles. I represent mostly employees who have either been the victims of discrimination in the workplace, or who have not been paid overtime they should have received. Most of my cases are filed as class actions but they are not the kind of class actions that result in people getting coupons. I am happy that in the cases I have been involved in with my co-counsel our clients have received payments that have enabled them to make down payments on houses or to buy new cars for cash. I am fortunate in that the people we represent are decent, hardworking people and it is an honor that they put their trust in us to fight for their rights. I have been practicing law since 1983, and I love it. William and I had a daughter, Christine, in 1969, and I have another daughter, Camyrin, born in 1971. Christie has two sons and a daughter, Myles born in 1994 whose father is Henry and Jonathan born in 2004 and Emma born in 2008 whose father is Alex. For Myles' 10th birthday in 2004, he and I flew to Washington, D.C. for a few days, then to Paris for a few days, then to South Africa for a week on a private game reserve, then to London for a few days. It was a breathtaking trip, and Myles and I had the time of our lives. Christie and Camyrin have six siblings, Andy and Amy who are William's children with his wife Karen, and Monica, Tina, Rob, and Jolie who are the children of Camyrin's father, Alain, and his wife, Bobi. I married Edward Washatka in 1974, and we were divorced in 2003. We are all friendly and enjoy giving emotional support to all of the children and grandchildren of our extended families and sharing their triumphs. Christie was a beautiful gymnast as a child and passed on her athletic prowess to Myles and Jonathan who are both born athletes. Camyrin got her teaching credential in 2005 and is a tenured teacher in the Pasadena Unified School District. My sister, Ruth, moved to Washington, D.C. in 2003 and her daughter, Laurel, joined her. Ruth is the editor of the GED and received her Ph.D in Education from George Washington University in 2010. criminal defense attorney in Fresno, California. He graduated from Ohio State University's law school and moved to California where he passed the Bar in 1973 and has been practicing law ever since. Being so far away from Ohio makes it difficult to visit family there. I wish we could be closer so that I could visit my older brother, Jonathan, and his sons, Nathan and Tim, and Nathan's wife, Jodie and their daughters, Rylee and Mackenzie. I also miss my cousins Ken, Ray and Joe Schmitt and their father, my Uncle Gene. And I miss William's family in Ohio, as well has those of his family that live in Nebraska and Virginia. Luckily, with the Internet it is much easier to stay in touch and exchange pictures. I have attended several WYHS class reunions and have had a great time visiting with classmates. I appreciate all the hard work and time the individuals who plan and organize the class reunions put into those efforts and thank them for making those events so classy and enjoyable. I am very, very sad that one of my closest friends from Whitehall Yearling High School, David Replogle, lost his moral compass somewhere along the way and now is paying a huge price for it. I have the dubious distinction of having gone to two high schools in two states with a classmate from each one who was convicted of murder: Leslie Van Houten from Monrovia High School was one of the Manson Family convicted of murdering the LaBiancas and David was convicted of murder for financial gain in January 2011. In both cases, neither Leslie nor David actually killed anyone, but because they were part of the plan which resulted in the death of a person, they were each convicted of murder. If anyone had predicted to me during high school that Leslie and David would be convicted of murder, I never would have believed them. On a whim, David (whom I always called Percy), William and I drove in William's 1959 VW to Expo 67 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada the weekend before finals. It is so hard to imagine that Percy changed so much from the guy I knew then. And Leslie had been so sweet that she was a Homecoming Princess. Such horrifying acts and terrible consequences for Leslie and David, for their victims, and for the families of Leslie, David and their victims.
