Lou Ann's Story
Life
I worked for my Dad at Office Outfitters until 1983. At that time I didn't see the need for a college education. My first marriage lasted 3 years to John McMichael. Staying single for 6 years and playing the dating game, I finally found my past love Jeff Short and got married. Jeff and I started a family of 1 boy and 1 girl immediately. Once the kids both started school full time I decided it was time for Mom to set a good example for the kids and went back to school. I earned an Assoc. Degree in Occupational Therapy. After graduating the job market fell due to cuts for rehab, so I decided to work in the school system so I could be close to my kids being they are my 1st job and priority. Now it is 2005, and I have begun my OTA career. It was such an ideal situation, the market for OT's is back. One of the places I did my internship sought me out and asked me to come to work for them. I have a lot of work to do catching up on my CEU's to satisfy OK state licensure, but I love my job. I am working in a pediatric clinic.
My son has moved to Dallas to become a rock-n-roll star in a band called Utica. They are doing very well. My daughter will be a senior this fall and plans to go to college.
I really miss the part of my life of being a mommy, I loved every bit of it. The empty nest is not easy for me. But, I hear it gets easier the longer they are gone. I am really dreading the time when my daughter will leave.
