Louetta's Story
Life
You may or may not remember me, either way would not surprise or offend me. My name during high school years was Louetta Hawkins. I was a skinny, shy little blondish girl who would have been in the class of '59. I did not graduate at that time, due to circumstances beyond my control. I did not belong to any "group" per say, I was just kinda' there. I was raised in an alcoholic family and at times, violent atmosphere, so I did not invite too many classmates over to experience the chaotic "Days of my life". I never knew what condition or mood my parents may be in and did not want the embarrassment of the ranting, raving, cursing and the hurling of identified flying objects. So I basically remained a loner and only sociallized with very few classmates, generally at school only. I ended up eloping (form of rebellion) to the ever famous Miami, Okla to get away from it all (reason for not graduating). NO, I was not pregnant, in fact I remained a virgin for a week after marriage. I married Jerry Lucas, who did not go to Wyandotte, in fact after his sophomore year at Ward he did not go at all (more rebellion on my part.)We ended up with 3 daughters and married 21 years before I filed and got a divorce. I had filed a couple of other times prior. I basically raised my daughters on my own, Jerry was not adult enough to be responsible for himself, let alone a wife and 3 daughters. I stayed married for the girls sake, or what I thought was for their good. When I decided I wasn't going to continue along this path, the girl...Expand for more
s were old enough to understand d-i-v-o-r-c-e, (they were almost 20, 18 and 14). The girls gave it a Hooray for Mom rating. I did remarry a great guy named Bill Braswell who graduated from Argentine High in 1955. He was a great husband, friend, lover, parent to my girls etc. until his death in 1999. He became the father the girls never had in Jerry, he and I combined our family (he had 2 sons, 1 daughter) and the grandchildren that followed were never his & hers, only ours.
So although my SUCCESS story may not include college, tremendous jobs, lots of travel, financial wealth, big car, big houses and the rest, I know I am a success...I have 3 daughters, I raised as a "married" single parent and they never gave me any problems, legal, emotional or otherwise. I was able to financially, emotionally and physically raise them almost entirely on my own til Bill came into our lifes. So I feel with the home life as a teenage and the 1st marriage of trying to raise an adult husband (I often say he is the child I am not proud of raising), I have traveled a long way (not in distance but in reality) I AM A SUCCESS!! That's my story and I am sticking to it.
P.S. I am no longer that skinny, shy, blondish little girl, I am now petite, not overweight, Clairol blondish little lady (usually a lady) and I am no longer shy. I am proud of me and my travels from where I started to who I am today. I am usually in a humorous mood and love to laugh. I may be POOR in the financial world, but RICH in the important ways. Again....I AM A SUCCESS.
