Louis's Story
After graduating from Kinnelon H.S. I attended Norwich University, Northfield Vt. I Graduated in 1976 with a B.S in Education and commissioned a 2Lt , Armor in the U.S Army. I married on Nov 6, 1976 before entering active duty at Ft Knox, Ky. After graduating from the Armor Officer Basic Course I was assigned as a tank Platoon leader in the 1st Bn 68th Armor 8th Inf Div. in Baumholder Germany. While assigned to the 68th I was promoted to 1Lt and served a company executive officer, Heavy Mortar Platoon Leader, and S-3 Air. In Oct 1980 I was reassigned to the Armor Officer Advanced Course at Ft Knox, Ky I was also promoted to Cpt. Upon Graduating I was Ass to the 4th Bn 37th Armor 194th Armor Brigade Hvy Sep. Snelling Mn as an adviser to the U.S. Army Reserve and National Guard. In 1985 I received orders G-3 8th Army HQ's Yongsan Korea where I was a operations officer. Unfortunately I was injured and reassigned to G-3 24th Inf Div Ft Stewart, Ga. Do to my Injuries I was discharged In Nov 1986. I had been awarded The Meritorious Service Medal, The Army Accomendation Medal with Oak leaf Cluster, Reserve Officer Service Medal, Korean National defense Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas service Ribbon with numeral 2. After spending several years in and out of the Veteran Administration Hospitals, I went to work with the VA as an outreach worker working with homeless Vets. Do to recurring illness caused by injuries I was forced to retire after 20 suffering 3 heart attacks. I have 3 children 2 girls, 1 boy, unfortunately I was divorced in 1987. I now live in Gainesville, Fl
