Hi friends, I haven't updated my story in years, so here goes… After graduating from Brooklyn High in 1969, I worked as a hairdresser for Tedesco’s Beauty Boutique, then Mademoiselle’s Salon. I was married to Dave Zaleski in November 1970 and had two children, Suzanne in 1973, and Matthew in 1975. We moved to Michigan in 1973 when my daughter was one month old. It was hard to re-establish my career as a hairdresser, so I was a stay-at-home mom while my kids were little. I didn’t sit idly by during those years though. I was a Sunday school teacher, a Brownie and Girl Scout leader, Cub Scout den leader, Boy Scout pack secretary, and newsletter editor for my children’s elementary school. I knew I had to go for training to re-enter the job market, so from 1983-85 I attended community college and earned an associate degree in medical transcription. In 1989 Dave and I divorced, and I was a struggling single mom for a lot of years. In 2001, I married my wonderful husband, Bob Campbell. He is the love of my life and we share a passion for ballroom dancing and traveling. So glad I'm married to such a wonderful man. I really hit the jackpot when I married him. We met ballroom dancing in 1989 but didn't get to really know each other until 1999! Dancing is our passion, and we love to dance every chance we get. Bob used to be a dance teacher for Arthur Murray's, so I have a wonderful dance partner. He is also my best friend and soul mate. I worked for 32 years as a medical transcriptionist for two hospitals, had my own transcription company for a few years, and taught medical transcription at Oakland Community College, my alma mater. In 2017 I retired from Beaumont Hospital and began working as a reading tutor for an organization called Beyond Basics, tutoring inner city kids in the greater Detroit area. This was something I had already been doing on a volunteer basis for a few years, and a cause for which I am passionate! Imagine not being able to read most of what you have just read on this page! That's what many kids and adults deal with. The charity Beyond Basics, is helping to change that in underserved areas of Detroit as well as Pontiac, Michigan. Then in 2020 Covid hit, and the schools closed. That ended my tutoring job. I haven’t officially worked since then, but I have done lots of volunteer work, making blankets for veterans and visiting hospitalized veterans. I have served as a volunteer at church in the childcare center for kids 18 months through kindergarten, and I have served as a camp counselor for FLIP camp (summer vacation Bible school) at my church.
