Lowell's Story

High School: My first year of high school was at DeKalb County High School in Smithville, TN, then we moved to Monroe, LA where I attended Ouachita Parish High School and graduated in 1961. I am a third generation Church Of God preacher, so you may understand why I have moved from city to city most of my life. I grew up in the parsonage. Other PK's will understand how that feels. I have two older brothers and two younger sisters. That puts me right in the middle. I made no great accomplishments in high school but felt very accomplished when I graduated. I enjoyed the band most of all. After high school I played with college for about a year and a half, then joined the Air Force. I thought blue was the neatest color. :) College: Well, actually, my first years at Lee University were in 1961-1962 (then known as Lee College) <leeuniversity.edu>. I socialized, enjoyed college fun-life, and didn't have much time for study. My grades were not good. I joined the USAF, got married, had kids, and pastored. My first pastorate was in Sylvester, GA. Moved to Louisiana, returned to Lee University in Cleveland, TN in 1974 and graduated in 1977 and received a BS degree in Biblical Historical Studies with a Professional Sequence in Pastoral Ministries. (Would that be a BHSPSPM?) :) From there I pastored in TN and LA. I received my Master of Divinity degree from Logos Graduate School <logos.edu> while pastoring in LA. Military I droped out of college and...Expand for more
joined the Air Force in January of 1963. Before my first day of military life was over, I realized that I had closed the door behind me and it had locked on its own and I had no key to open it. What a sobering thought. Except for the time I spent in basic training at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, TX and tech school at Sheppard AFB in Witchita Falls, TX, I served my time at Gunter AFB in Montgomery, AL. I was in the 4648th Support Squadron and worked in the Block House for MOADS. I was honorably discharged in 1967. Career I returned to the ministry after finishing my hitch with the military. Went back to college, pastored churches in TN and LA. and am presently retired and living in Cleveland, TN. I no longer pastor but I do preach as often as I get the opportunity. I am also serving on the staff as an associate pastor in the last church that I pastored, Grace Assembly, here in Cleveland, TN. Today! (April 1, 2010) I am beginning to understand that being retired is not just sitting around the house all day reading a good book or going to the river and fishing from sunup to sundown. There's all kind of things to do and many people to do them for. However, you must realize that it is mostly pro bono work. There are some benefits for being retired but it's not very uplifting when you go to the resturant and the cashier assumes without asking, that you are a senior citizen. What's the matter with that girl? I know I do not look that old!! :)) lol
