Lupe "Lu" 's Story
Life
I haven't gone by the name Lupe since right after high school. I go by just plain "Lu" I am married to a wonderful man named Phil. Phil plays "slap bass," acoustic guitar and keyboard and was in a Chicago band called "Curmudgeon." Check out their CD on my space at url myspace/curmudgeon2K they play great music. I have the "BEST" inlaws in the world!!! They're my second mom and dad. We have a son named Brian Adam who is now 12 and doing very well in school. Brian loves to play soccer and is on aan after school soccer league. I'm a lot more outgoing now than I was back in school. Most of you would remember me as being somewhat quiet and reserved and never got in trouble in school. I was a very private person and still am now which surprises me that I'm typing this much in this bio. As a matter of fact my dad passed away my sophomore year of high school and none of my friends ever knew. Most of you who knew me very well would have never guessed that I had a pretty hard childhood. I also went through a LOT of racism all through elementary, junior high and high school but I've learned to finally get over that and be proud of being Hispanic and extremely proud of my bi-lingual skills. I did however hang around a couple trouble makers in school which didn't make things any better. We moved to Oklahoma to be closer to a very close sister of mine who is also my best friend and have never been happier. We came to Oklahoma in May 2004 as we thought it would be best for us to move out of Illinois and was time for us to pick up and start a new life in good ole' Tulsa Oklahoma. In 2001 I succeeded in losing 200 lbs. We've been extremely happy here in and moving here was the best thing we could have ever done. I lost my mother 2 years ago to Alheimers and heart disease which was another reason we moved to Oklahoma as I had a really hard time dealing with her death and just wanted to sta...Expand for more
rt over in Oklahoma. Living here in OK has definately made things a lot easier in life as I have the best job in the world that pays well, a great family and a stress free wonderful life. I'm a Spanish Medical Translator for the Oklahoma State University Pediatric Dept in Tulsa Oklahoma. I am now a volunteer Victim Advocate for DVIS of Oklahoma which stands for Domestic Violence Intervention Services. I advocate for women and children who are involved in or have gone through domestic violence abuse and or rape. I assist them with resources for them to be able to leave abusive situations. I'm very involved in my son's life and do what I can do give him the opportunities that I didn't have growing up due to growing up poor in a one parent household.
Since moving to Oklahoma I have accomplished most of my goals and am very happy where I'm at in life right now. I have the career that I've always wanted, married to the man of my dreams, the most perfect inlaws and have a very well behaved wonderful 12yr old son. We own a house and are living pretty comfortably. I have a whole new outlook on life since moving to here. I "found" myself here in Oklahoma and realized that I was able to accomplish a lot more than I thought I would have and was able to do a lot more than I thought. I'm living the "American Dream."
The 2 things that I really miss from school was NJROTC and band. I played alto sax since I was 10 years old and keyboard since age 7. I was the only girl who played alto sax in junior high. Alto Sax rocks!!!!!
I keep in touch with one person from junior high and high school which until today is still my best friend "Ann Danajka." Ann and I are still best friends after all these years. Ann and her family recently moved down to Oklahoma in a house down the street from me for us to all be closer together. Having Ann and her family as neighbors and as best friends was the finishing touch on what was missing here in our Okie lifestyles.
