Luz's Story
In Oceanside, divorced for 21 years. 1/2 the time I love the freedoms-1/2 the time it would be nice to have a partner, especially to help move heavy things ;-) I have 1 child, who has just had her first child :-), I think she's beautiful but I MAY be a bit biased?! She likes the tatoo's and piercings, but hey, what are you gonna do, they have to be individuals?! She makes more $ than I do! But, I guess that's what you want for your kids, to do a least a bit better than yourself. I got into riding bicycles for a while and realy enjoyed it. I wish I still rode, I'd be in way better shape! I still have a practically brand new recumbent that sits and looks at me ... Love working with computers, software and hardware. Glad to be back near the beach, we had moved to San Bernardino for 15 years, armpit of the world I like to call good old SanBerdoo. I'm just enjoying being a grown up, I'm into that "discovering who I am" bit that everyone else went through in their late teens. I'd like to be MORE than just a product of my environment! Just NOW learning who I am as an individual. Wish I was still young enough to enjoy it??!! I'm part of a big family, 5 sisters and two brothers, and as goes with most big families, we MOSTLY talk to each other. hehe . . . .
School
Wow, that's a ways back - I remember at Carson High School Sarah Perry and Lori Barrett (or was that burkhalter?). And I remember I wanted to take drafting, and I started the class but I was the ONLY girl in the class, at that time it was considered a man's thing. My "counselor" talked me into dropping the class. What a knucklehead, the only girl in an all boy class and I wanted out??!!! Can you IMAGINE where I'd be now?! LOL
I remember before I moved to Carson I remember I thought this one kid was really cute, Ricky Alvarez. Don't know why I remember him so well? And Lyle Fayles, I remember him too. Actually ran into Lyle years later.
Dolores Elementary I remember Mr. Noo...Expand for more
nan and Mr. Fitzgerald. And the rings and bars, and how I had all these blisters and calouses (sp?) on my hands. I used to love to do the rings, going round and round, swinging through the air. It was almost like flying. And a good friend, Cindy Bradley. Hey, Cindy, if you're out there, drop me a line!
Carnegie Jr. High, I remember working in the Cafeteria, and my gym teacher, Mrs. Blakely?? I remember we had the first strike by teachers I had ever heard of, I was really surprised, I didn't know teachers could go on strike? And I remember I was always late to homeroom, that was when homeroom was always the first class, for like 15 minutes, then we started the day. My mom didn't write much in English, so I'd write a note about being late and she would sign anything I gave her. I always told her what it was for, and I was always truthfull. Again, what a knucklehead, I could have got away with sooooo much!
College
College didn't come till late in life, 35 or so, so I didn't get much into the social life. Finished one year in San Bernardino, was starting my second when we moved to Oceanside and I never did go back. Did go to "Trade" school for computer repair, tried to use it to get a job but it didn't work out as I had planned. I'd love to be a perpetual student, I love learning new things.
Workplace
Mostly stayed in the Office/Clerical field. Love computers and working with them. I've taken classes in PC software/hardware, tried it as a career but should have started when I was 20, pays well but takes many years to get there. At my age, I don't have the time to get to that well paying job, my mind may go before then?! Presently unemployed, and trying to get a job at this age . . . is not happening. Can't they have something, like early retirement in SS with full benefits, since we can't find jobs at over 55? Would be nice . . . To all my fellow 50'ish friends, let's hope these old bodies make it through a few more years. ;-)
