Lynn's Story
Life: Is good!
Home life: My domestic partner, John, and I have been together since early '95, though we've been friends since '87. We have good relationships with John's daughter, Sarah, and her half-sister Caitlin. Sarah made John a first-time grandfather and me a first-time "grandmother by proxy" in October '08. She and her children live in the Bay area; we see them as often as we can, though not as much as we'd like.
Travel: In '95, I took myself to Puerto Rico for three days. In '96, John and I drove to his family reunion in western Colorado. In '98, John and I spent 2 weeks in western Europe (flew to France, drove through Belgium to The Netherlands, flew to England and home).
In '99, we flew to Nashville and drove 1100 mi in 8 days, through Tennessee, North and South Carolina, Georgia, and Alabama, back to Nashville. John and I have also driven to southern and eastern Oregon and southern California several times, and Seattle/Vancouver BC. (Can you tell we enjoy it?!)
I had the luxury of spending nearly three months with my sister (formerly Laurie, now Shasta) in north-central Arizona over the winter of '04-'05 -- it was the most time we'...Expand for more
d spent together since I left home (and a great time together) and the longest time I'd been away from home since I was 17.
My mom moved to western Montana in '98(?) and we visited about once a year until '06, when she was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS, aka Lou Gehrig's disease). I made three trips up that year, and she died in Dec. '06. I've also made several trips to visit best friend Connie in north central Florida.
John and I made several driving trips to southern California in the late '00 and moved to Palm Springs in the spring of 2009. We loved it but a lack of work opportunities due to the Recession led us to return to Portland.
Employment: I have worked as a legal secretary/paralegal since 1988. I keep trying to retire but a series of interesting long-term temp assignments have continued to lure me back.
Keeping up with classmates: I've made it to all of our reunions but the 20th (schedule conflict) -- why didn't we have a 30th? LOVE email and the internet for keeping in touch between the personal visits. John and I have also made a number of trips to WW over the years, and reconnecting with classmates has been great!
