Lynn's Story
Lynn is from Summerfield, Kansas. Lynn's schools include Summerfield High School and 1 year at Fairbury Junior College. Married high school sweetheart, Laverne Johnson, on September 24, 1966. Lynn changed colleges the summer of 67. He started attending Washburn University in Topeka the Fall of 67, He majored in Mathematics and AFROTC. Lynn was commissioned in the USAF as a Second Lieutenant and graduated from Washburn with a BS Degree in May 1971, Lynn entered the USAF in June and started pilot training at Craig AFB in Selma, Ala. He completed pilot training in May 1972 and was transferred to Ellsworth AFB, SD in Rapid City. Lynn was assigned to fly the KC-135A, (a Boeing 707). While flying the Tanker he flew to Hawaii, Wake Island, Guam, Okinawa, and Thailand supporting the Vietnam War in Southeast Asia. He also flew to Europe twice. He was promoted to Captain in December 1974. Lynn upgrade to aircraft commander in Spring of 1975 and transferred to Wichita Falls, TX in June 76 at Sheppard AFB. He became qualified as a T-37 Instructor and trained students from around the world to be military pilots. In June 1980, Lynn transferred to McConnell AFB in Wichita KS. He got requalified in the KC-135A as an aircraft commander. Lynn upgraded instructor pilot and was selected to be a Flight Commander. hile serving as the Safety Officer, Lynn closely monitored the Wings conversion to the KC-135R model with the CFM-56 engine, In June 1987 Lynn was transferred to Osan AB, South Korea as the Director, Systems Management for 7th Air Force. In August, his wife, Laverne, and 2 daughter, Lynette and Larissa spent a month at Osan visiting South Korea. Lynn's parents flew over to Korea in September for 2 weeks. Lynn flew home for Christmas and his son, Lance, came over on spring break from college. Lynn returned back home in June 1988, He was requalified in the KC-135R. With his experience Lynn was transferred to Boeing across the runways to accomplish flight tests on the newly re-engined KC-135R. While accomplishing these flight test, Lynn earned his Masters Degree from Webster Univ. in December 1990. Lynn retired from the USAF in June 1991. He was hired in December 91 to work for FlightSafety International Hawker Beechcraft Learning Center in Wichita. He became a qualified simulator instructor in the King Air 200 and the Beechjet.
