Sherry's Story

Since High School I went to Nursing School for 2 1/2 years, got married to Randy Furr. Had Two Beutiful girls, Traci and Ashley. Went to take the testing and passed in the top third for Certified medical Assistant. Worked for Northeast Medical Center (which is now CMC Northeast Medical Center) since 1981 except for a couple of years I worked for a pediatrian office and a couple of months at a nephorogy ( not my thing). I left the ICU/ER when the girls got older to work at doctors offices so I would not have to work on christmas day and sundays so I could be at church and home with them.I divorced in 1995. remarried in 1998 to Rodger Hughes , who is in the National guard army and a police officer. Both my girls went to colleige, oldest- music education teacher and is getting married in June,2009. The youngest- social work, signlanguage, got married March of 2007 to a sheiff deputy( keeping it in the family) and they have a 7 month old baby girl (my first grandbaby- of course the prettest and best ever). We now live out in the country with 2 pigmeny goats, chickens, a miniture horse( for the baby) a dog,a cat. our neigbors has about 50 cows, another has 40 potbelly pigs and the rest has 2 horses each so always something to do. We also have a very small place at a resort area at Baden Lake , which is nice place to get away, swim, read, putt-putt, horseshoes, ride the boat, fish, ect. My family that is left, still lives in Rockingham.update 10/2014, I now have 4 grandchildren, moved to Kannapolis, Nc to be close to them, now have craft room. 2021 moved to Albemarle, NC, retired due to disability I always wanted to be a nurse when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a great idea. As it turns out, they were right. I enjoy riding the 4 wheeler and motorcycle ,reading a good book, riding the horses, helping others and going to the beach The wildest thing I can remember these days I ever done in school was either when I was 16, my best friends brother who was a little wild at the time was giving me a hard time , it was my 16th b-day and they were giving me a sweet 16 and never been kiss and he taught me how to do hickeys.Second was when Barbara and I got into a bar in Rockingham and we were not 18 ( so I could see a guy Nickey I was Crazzy about) The owner gave us something where you lick salt from your hand then take a shot. Our first time drinking anything. If I'm going to work , I need to have mountain dew, chocolate, and music to be able to deal with the day-to-day. My grandfather was my hero. He had a very hard life. His mother died at a very young age, dad remarried a younger women and had more childrenthe age of his children. His first wife died durning childbirth along with their child. He then married my grandmother, almost lost her durning child birth but did lose 2childern and a set of twins before having 4 children , he was in the war, he had a child die at age 29 of a boat accident and a grandchild( my brother die) died at age 29 suicide. ...Expand for more
he had very bad rheumotoid arthritis, and other medical problems , along with my grandmother but nothing would slow him down . he still worked til age 65 the worked part-time after that.In his 70's when I divorced, he helped me to move and she helped me to clean. he was always at church , I always knew he was praying for me. He died before my grandmother , when grandma died they found a pray box in his things, he had all his children and their spouse, grandchildern and great-grands names in it where he had been praying for them . If that is not an inspitation and strong person , to look up to , a hero I don't know who is The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Dean, my brother and Papa, because I didn't get to say good-bye and I love You. If. My dream home would be at the beach. You have to teach your children to be independent and that means letting them go but also that means letting them make some of their own decision and pay the consequences and bad ones. Still must give bountries If I won $100 million, I'd give 10 million of it to God, then spend the rest on family, put some bank & stocks and pay bills. My current age is 50. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be really old, close to nursing home. I was so completely wrong. My first Crush got married, has two children. We saw each other prob. 15 years ago to talk about old times and see how things were going, at the time things were not going well for either of us, but decided to leave the past where it was, with the mess we were having that we could straighten things out then we would see. we were such close friend we would never wanted to do anything to mess that up. he actually named his first child after me.I saw him one more time and he has now gotten saved, going to church and working things out which is great!Thats the best news I could have gotten but I miss our friendship and times together. I've lost contact with him so I'm not sure what is happening now. I have several tropies per say. one for being team player at work, one for disease management, one from cola( which is not easily gotten ) for good job I did in the lab. Thats enough for now. my one do over would be not stay with my ex as long, I would never say not marry him because of my girls.Or do it differently, and stay in touch with my close friends from my school days In 10 years, I hope to be retired, and travel. Lisa Wheeler was my best friend. we met in 8th grade, she was the new girl.We still talk on occassion and she came to my daughters wedding. My first job was at Richmond memorial hosp, unless you count working tobaco on the farm at age 12-14, where I got tobaco was$100 a summer/ nursing aid was 3.10/hr. What I remember most about itwas tobacco was hard work in the sun, hot, and i hated the tobacco worms and having to squish them to kill them . Richmond Memorial were good to teach me new things, they knew I was going to Nursing school and the doctors and staff were great to me.
