Malcus's Story

After high school I attended Mott Comm College and worked at Hamady Bros. (grocery stores)for about a year, trying to figure out what I would do with my life. So I joined the US ARMY. That was a eye-opener... I was stationed at Ft Ord Ca. from 1975-79. Combat engineers battalion. My First son was born in 1976 (Malcus Jr). Completed AS degree in electronics technology in 1980. Second son born, 1980 (Mario). Enrolled in San Jose State University -1981. Divorced in 1982. Graduated in 1986, bachelor degree in electrical engineering. Married in 1990 to Pat Rosser (Richards), from Detroit. Still happily married to her. I worked in Silicon Valley (in California) for an additional 9 years at MMI, AMD and Hewlett-Packard Company. I'd started out as an electronics technician and worked my way up to Product Engineer, marketing engineer, and finally a client executive, before leaving the corporate sector. Along the way I'd specialized in microwave communications, digital semiconductors, fiber optics, and information technology. It is at this stage (after college)that I finally began to have some fun and enjoy life. Life had been mostly hard work and scarifice since high school. Finally I started making some decent money and traveling to see the world (Japan, Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, Hon...Expand for more
g Kong, Mexico, Caribbean, etc.) Plus I had the opportunity to travel back to Mi/Flint as much as I wanted (a couple times/month) for several years. Finally I got tired of the rat race in Cally, and my wife and I decided we wanted a change of pace and location. We picked Atlanta to resettle. Warm, friendly, good business climate, great cultural outlets, and close (enough) to our families in Mi. We've lived in the ATL since 1995. And we had a daughter in 2000 (Maya). My only daughter, and she is a joy! I am now an independent businessman. My life dream. Business is a constant hustle! Fortunately, I learned to hustle in Flint, where I learned from the best. I still remember getting my lunch money taken within 5 minutes playing TUNK at Bryant Jr. High! Lesson #1: know your strengths and weaknesses! The guys who suckered me into that game will remain nameless, but they know who they are. 35 cents was an expensive lesson for me back in 1970. Lesson #2: a bought lesson is better than a taught lesson any day. My parents never had to tell me to avoid gambling after that. My business is of course an ethical hustle, and a gratifying hustle. At 53 years young, life has been great. The blessings have been abundant. The challenges have served to keep me humble. And I am ready for the second half...
