Malerie's Story

Life I am a single parent and also a foster parent. So we have a house full. As ususal, I want to save the world so why not start with our kids. I have 2 boys who are now 10&12 and a foster son who is my 3rd boy and is 15. Two of my foster daughters who are now 19 & 21 with their own girls are living here as well so you can say there is never a dull moment around here and we like it like that. Those of you who know me know that I never like to be bored. After school everyday I was off to work at Thew Gym and once the weekend hit, Circus here we come. Nothing's changed I still love hanging with my girls. We stay busy here in Florida so if you ever get bored and need a break, give me a call. By the way, Thank you Mr.Schmidt for being such a great teacher. School Wow! The first crush I ever remember having was on the paper boy and his name was Stephen Spears in Yokohama, Japan. I lost all hope of him ever liking me back when I snuck out of the house at the age of 7 with a friend who was staying the night and lost her off base. She was not too bright. Well, his Mom came out of the house to find out why I was walking down the street at 2a.m. and called security so I made sure I never had to face him again. For friends, I made tons of great friends around the world and am still in touch with most of them. I thank God for bringing such amazing people into my life. Enemies, well I can't say I ever had any. I never had any problem saying what I felt, just in case any of you forgot :-) but I do recall having a few fall outs with some guy, I think his name was Jimmy Davis. :-) Who later became all right with me when he coached our Senior victory in Powder Puff- Go YO-HI. Jimmy is someone I'll never forget. Who could forget the night Tish knocked a girl out at Circus because she was talking smack and before I could respond, the girl fell to the floor. Then the american bouncers snuck us out of the club like we were fugitives. It was a trip. Go Tish! Pinky, that's my girl. Yes Pinky and I are still friends. We both have two boys and talk often like we just saw each other yesterday but we actually have never even seen each others children in person. One day. And Mindi. Girl, you were my side kick, my little sis, and I think about you all the time. Marlyn is now married and just had a baby. Congratulations girl. And Mili, who graduated two years ahead of us, lives here in Florida as well. We are both happily divorced and living the single life to the fullest. Now for teachers, they are the most signifigant people in our lives because we spend the majority of our day with them. Some don't realize how they can affect a childs life in a negative or a positive way but the one's who are positve are remembered forever. First my Mom, Sharron Shipe who is the best Mom and teacher in the world. She is still teaching and changing the lives of inner city kids. She taught at St. Josephs in Yokohama and at Sullivans in Yokosuka. Those kids who had her were very luck. I'll never forget Misty. She successfully changed that little girls life around in kindergarten when most people would have given up. Not only is she my Mom and my friend but she has been my best teacher. I also remember Ms. Simmons in 6th grade. My Mom and I were talking the other day about teachers who make a difference and how you never forget them and although Mr. Schmidt made the biggest impact, Ms. Simmons was the first one who came to mind. She was so positve with such a sweet spirit. Now for an amazing person, Mr. Schmidt. To this day I know how to spell a lot, I never take a stapler off of someone's desk with out asking first :-) and I'll never forget the time you got me back stage to interview the coreagrapher of My Fair Lady for my senior project. That was amazing. And by the way, I know you knew that I didn't show up for our final exams because I had gone to the Bobby Brown concert the night before but you allowed me to make them up anyway in order to graduate. Thanks! Carpe Diem! Last but never least, my friend who I think of all the time and w...Expand for more
ho touched the lives of all of those around him, Johnson (USS Midway). You made our days in Japan memorable. I miss you and love you and carry you in my heart always. May you rest in peace. And does anyone know where Chico is. Joseph Correa. I've been trying to find him for years and can not. Please pass on the info if you have it. I had the time of my life at Yo-HI and I wouldn't change a thing. College Oh yah, I loved college. Did I get good grades? Did I get any at all? Put it this way, there's not much of a transcript to transfer if I decided to go back to college. I was too busy steppin with my big brothers of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity.:-) Yes, I was the only white girl who was a Sigma Sweet and had the time of my life. I recently attended a reunion with all of my big brothers and sweet sisters and we had a ball. Everyone is still the same and the family unity hasn't changed. Workplace Well, my first real job was at Thew Gym in Yokosuka Japan. I was 16. My boss was Tim, and he was so much fun to work for. A lot of us from school worked there and had a ball. I remember when Steve and I were working together and I had gone to Circus the night before and had no sleep, so he covered for me while I slept behind the counter of gear issue, on the clock. :-) Sorry MWR. Thanks Steve. Then I went to college, got married and had kids. I ran a family home care and taught English so I could be at home with my boys. When we moved back to the States, I worked at a day care so I could be close to my kids. When they got older, I was an Admin. Asst. for a temp agency, a brokerage firm, a sales manager for a fitness facility and a director of sales for a hotel. I have been a foster parent for the last 7 years and decided to take a break and go back to school. I'm thinking of working for a lunch dating company. How exciting to go to work to find out how someone's date went. Get paid to gossip, what a concept. Well, the dating service never happened but I am pleased to say that I work for a wonderful company called Home Instead Senior Care. I am their Marketing Rep. and love what I do. We provide non-medical care to the elderly and I was on t.v. for the first time talking about our gardening brochures that offer ideas for seniors to do at home. I had to be there at 7:30 a.m. on a Saturday. You all know I wasn't on time. And it was live! :-) It all worked out though and now I'm a local star, for those who were up that early. :-) Military Well, I was never in the military, but my father Capt. Ev Shipe was all of my childhood. I was born in California and have grown up in Japan. He served three tours in Japan on the USS Midway. The best ship ever. Of course that was the only one I knew. I was 5 when his first tour on the ship started and 17 graduating from Kinnick when his last one ended. My mom and I made many trips around the Far East to go see my dad and learned so much about the beauty of other cultures. We were in Japan from 77-83 then we moved to Bolling Air Force Base in Washington D.C. 83-86, after that NAS JAX in Jacksonville FL, where I am now and have been for the last 9 years (the longest I've ever lived in one place. I get the itch to move every two to three years)86-87 and back to Yokosuka Japan when my Dad was XO if the Midway 87-89. After that we moved to Kingsville TX and then my parents were off to Australia for my Dad's last tour and unfortunately for me, not for him, he decided to retire there so I do not see him as much as I'd like to but he's lovin it. I'm sure all of you military men would understand. I later married an an old high school friend who was in the Navy and we moved to Yokosuka Japan where both of our handsome boys were born. We then moved back here to Jacksonville where we met in high school. Although we are no longer together, I have decided to stay here and give my boys the stability that every child should not have. I wish they had the opportunity to move around like I did and experience life in that way but they are kind and happy kids and thats all that matters.
