Marcus's Story
I was born in Korea to Army parents, then moved to TX, Germany, AL, NJ, then MI; Picked up 4 languages in the process. Went to BC Central HS, where I excelled, academically, in helping to organize a protest, hanging out in the smoker/stoner parking lot, and coming to school with a 'different look' when I made random appearances. Then ran away for 3 months, moving to upstate NY, then Detroit.
Although I had never been to one-as a teen- I had always aspired to be a raver or 'club kid'or B-Boy and had my heart set on living in NYC, but only accomplished making a couple of visits.
I decided to remove myself from dysfunction by joining another dysfunctional family, the US Navy. There, I made my closest friends, saw more of the world and had disposable money, but was never satisfied. Determined to seize control over my life again, I decided to divorce that dysfunctional fam...Expand for more
ily and move to NYC or Seattle. The plan was certainly NYC, but I didn't want to give up my brand new car that took me 24 years to buy; So I drove from Norfolk, VA, across the entire south-From SoCal, up the entire west coast so I could see as much of the United States as I could, so I could have the option of settling at any place that caught my fancy.
The morning I woke up in Seattle, I was in awe. It completely exceeded my expectations. It was ALTERNATIVE EVERYTHING!!!-ALTERNATIVE PARADISE- urban, yet natural, funky, intelligent, rebellious and refreshing-IT WAS ME!!!
Now I spend my days basking in my freedom and read and try to figure out what to do with it. Immersing myself in my spirituality and trying to execute what is has been beckoning me to do my entire life-to follow my spirit, and nothing more/nothing less.(and with no ball and chain, I might ad!!!.lol)
