Margaret's Story
Margaret (Peggy) is from Boston and has been living in Derry, Northern Ireland since August 1977. Margaret attended Holy Trinity Grammar School, Holy Trinity High School and Boston Business School (now Roxbury Commuity College). After moving to Ireland she attended University Ulster where she qualified as a Social Worker and was employed by the Western Health and Social Care Trust as a Child Care Social Worker for over 20 years, retiring in 2011. The following year she was diagnosed with breast cancer and following surgery and treatment she is now cancer free for 10 years. She met her husband, Charlie, in 1970 while visiting cousins in Derry . Peggy and Charlie will celebrate their 50th Wedding Anniversary on February 12, 2022. She has 5 children and 14 grandchildren. where her maternal grandparents were from in County Donegal, and from where they emigrated to America in 1893. Her paternal grandparents came from the other end of Ireland, County Cork. Her middle son returned to live in the States (Connecticut) after spending one year of university studying there. He is now married with a family. She enjoys music--particularly the sounds of the 60s but also likes several other types of music as well. Since retiring she has been able to enjoy a lot of things she didn't have the time to do while working. Started knitting again, doing jigsaws, and reading everything--historical novels, history, autobiographies, etc. Still loves sports and misses the Red Sox but has discovered a new love--rugby. Enjoys baking again and most of all spending time with grandchildren.
