Margaret's Story
Life
Well, since RHS I've had quite a life. I worked in the medical profession for 15 years all in and around LA County area. I didn't seriously attend college until 1991 and since then I've obtained a Bachelor's degree from Smith College in MA [1998], as well as a Master of Library Science and Master of History both from Simmons College in Boston [2001 & 2003]. I'm now an Archivist [Librarian of old but valuable records] and have been in "the business" for about 5 years now. I've worked mainly in Massachusetts [Springfield College and the Archdiocese of Boston]. I also worked a year long grant project at the Center for Black Music Research at Columbia College Chicago. I am now in Albany, NY an work at the New York State ARchives as an Archivist and Records Manager Specialist II.
To shock many [if not most] of you from RHS, my partner is female and I hope you can all deal with this. I've been "out" since just after high school and am very happy with my life and my partner. We were legally married just before we left Massachusetts and have been together over 15 years. We have raised ...Expand for more
her two children from an earlier marriage and I assure you we were and are still a typical family with all the arguments, tears, celebrations, laughter and love as all of my hetero-classmates have experienced since RHS. My stepson, Brandon, in currently attending Columbia College Chicago and is majoring in fiction writing. My stepdaughter, Courtney, has recently completed medical assistant training and successfully passed the national Certification exams. Heidi, my wife, and I are rather proud of both kids.
More recently, I've recently become a survivor of breast cancer [2008]. Luckily mine was DCIS [Ductal Carcinoma In Situ] which was found very early and grows very slowly. I had surgery and 32 radiation treatments, and [as of right now] I'm cancer free. This was in many, many ways a life-changing experience; and if any of have experienced breast cancer either first-hand or are a supporter of a survivor and would like to talk to an old friend about this -- don't hesitate to contact me.
I hope to hear from some of my old RHS friends sometime. In the meantime, take care and be safe.
