Margaret's Story

I have retired! The intent was to retire gradually over five years, alas, along came COVID which completely changed the world forever. That doesn't mean I am sitting on my duff wondering what hit me, I am embracing the change, picking up where I left off with my music (I play in a concert band for adults), and exploring making art. Without regrets, I have left behind my former careers and business. In urban life, I built a successful career in sales and marketing in high tech. I have since relocated to small town Ontario, where I started my own business as a consultant, building on my experience and expertise, helping small and medium size businesses develop and grow. I carry my camera everywhere (thank heavens for digital!), walk a lot - there's lots to see, travel, and mix pleasure with business! Active in the community and a member of several networking groups, I enjoy meeting people, and spending time on my various hobbies. What's great about living here is that even the kids say hello, and there isn't much traffic on the sideroads. I always wanted to be a teacher when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a dumb idea. As it turns out, they were right and wrong. Teaching kids was not for me, but in effect I am teaching adults when I work with them to grow their business. If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have the ability to choose my clients, total control of the situation, and an outlet after work, along with admin help to be able to deal with the details on a day-to-da...Expand for more
y basis. My current age is "much older". When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be decrepit and old and boring fuddy duddies. I was so completely wrong. I really am only 30 something, and have no intention of getting older. Oh, I am brilliant and incredibly interesting to men and women alike! As for style, I have always worn classics, just in sizes that get a little larger as time goes by, so they never go out of style, I have to replace them when the finally wear out or the buttons don't do up! I find that Sears is so far behind the fashions, at least 2 years, so I don't bother going in there anymore. As for weirdest job, I think the world thinks I had the weirdest career because I had a high profile job - I did what had traditionally been a guy's job - I designed sound systems. It was a blast! Maybe the traditionalists were jealous I had broken the mold and moved light years ahead. Women's Lib? I showed them how! What would surprise most people at a high school reunion would be how rich with experience my life has been, with close friends around the world. London in the UK is my second home. My first job was at the local drugstore, where I got paid what everyone else got paid at that point in time to ring in purchases and price goods and stock shelves. What I remember most about it is the owner and all the different people who came in to see him. It was a lesson in business, civics, networking, customer service, sales and marketing. Great basis for modern business life!
