Margery's Story
After graduating from high school in 1962, I started collecting degrees. I spent two years at the University of Vermont and then transferred to NYU (University Heights) where I got a BA in French and Education. Not ready for the "real world", I went to Case-Western Reserve University in Cleveland and got a Masters in French. Finally I realized that New York was the place to be, so I moved back to New York and ended up teaching in Valley Stream. That lasted a year! I eventually got into editing and worked for True Confessions Magazine. (In spite of what you think, it's not THAT kind of magazine!)...Expand for more
I got married in 1976 and had my first child in 1977. A few years later, bored by staying at home and inspired by stories my grandmother had told me, I was back at NYU entering a degree program in Teaching English as a Second Language. It wasn't easy since I was living in Chappaqua, up in Westchester, and now had two children. My son had also developed diabetes. However, eight years later I received another masters degree. Now, over thirty years later, I am divorced, still living in Chappaqua, and teaching ESL in Valhalla, New York. I would love to hear from other Long Beach High School graduates.
