Maria's Story
Hello, fellow St. John Chrysostomites and Hawthorne High School Cougars! It's been a number of years since I have spoken to any of you, but I'd welcome the opportunity to reminiscence 'bout the past and/or talk 'bout present day matters concerning life in general.
I'm curious as to what became of Sean Mitchel -the guy that sat behind me in math class and would poke his pencil in my enormous hair as a favorite pastime- Kendal Wood, Lucia Williams, Luis Marmol -the poor boy I taunted with ice cream sandwiches and phone calls- Aaron Bullock, Cynthia Williams -a whiz kid and all around nice girl- Kelli Knox -funny, funny, funny- Crystal something or rather -funny, funny, funny- Simone Harding, Terese Bishop, Bonnie -we lost touch after the Marines.
Oh, and Dalia Tuero, for goodness sake! Praise God/Ala/Buddha/Shiva/mother/whoever one may believe in that our worlds converged when they did because I do not know where I would be if we didn't have each other during trying times. CRX FOREVER!
I live i...Expand for more
n an oxyMORMON state -Nevada, an ultra-conservative, right-wing state that prides itself at keeping dirty secrets -ah, sin city: What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.
Nevada, in its entire beige splendor; tumbling tumble weeds and hot wind whipping about.
Tan cookie-cutter houses, road work -a constant source of malcontent- orange cones (the state flower) scattered throughout the main roads, yellow Bobcats and endless piles of dirt, toothless women with thick skin and rubber smiles hold signs to stop traffic.
I make my home with my domestic partner, Cathy -a Special Education teacher- and our three chihuahuas, Charcoal, Croquetta and Paco Ole. Oh, Frank Labrador, my childhood friend, shares our home with us too!
I made the move to Las Vegas after my sister-in-law, Pam passed away ten years ago. She was survived by my brother Jose and his two darling children, Jenica and Joseph. Anyways, Jen and JoJo are the reason I stay in Nevada.
Um...enough 'bout me. Tell me 'bout you!
Ciao,
Mia Rivera
