Marie's Story

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all and wishing the very best in the upcoming year. Here it is December 18, 2014. I was thirteen when I walked into the Bennett's Market to get some things for my Mom, a beautiful August day in 1948 when there working on produce stood this tall, dark and handsome guy. Wow! talk abut being hit by a bull dozer. I just stood there and stared at him and when he noticed me, he smiled and had the deepest dimple I have ever seen. Well that stared it, my parents were very strict, almost to the point I could not have a boy walk me home from school. Of course I was in Jr. High at John Adams and the school was right across the street from the market. He was 18 so no chance of boy/girlfriend relationship. We met during lunch hour and He was amazed how naïve I was but then in those days strict parents like mine, especially the Spanish which is what we were, just didn't talk about such things. He served four years in the Navy, mostly at sea as he was helping support a brother and a sister along with his mother So I lost contact with him then one day when working at Safeway on 7th street, he walked into the market shopping with his mom and the rest is history, So here we are almost 60 years later celebrating his 85th birthday. Oh yes we have had some medical issues in the last six months and praying it all turns out well. Jut thought I would update as I see I have had quite a few visits from former classmates and want you all to know there are times when I reflect on my relationships with friends and the fun we had many times, swimming, talking or whatever. I just turned 80 on the tenth but don't feel it at all. Had cataract surgery on both eyes before they got to bad as I do majority of the driving, health wise I feel fine. So dear friends I feel blessed that all these years we have experienced few health issues. Amazing what thinking positive will do for one's soul. Hope all are enjoying this beautiful time of the year, until next time - so long for now HAPPY Easter to everyone. Gosh it's April 2014, thought I would let you all know I am well. Can't complain about my health as for an 79 going on 80, I think I am doing pretty good. Just had cataract surgery on my left eye and it is amazing, soon will have the left one done too. Hair is still blond, my bangs are turning grey but it is still natural. o it isn't long anymore, got it cut this year and sent my pony tail to Lucks for Love. I think that is what it is called. Anyway the only thing of interest now if our purchase of a 1985 GMC S-15 Pickup with canopy that we are having cherried out. Isn't that a hoot?? Well when you had time on your hands you find a hobby right, well we decided to do this and so far it has been fun. Just don't know what to pain it yet. Anyway life goes on. From November 2013 through March 18, we have lost a God daughter, a close friend of fifty years, and two cousins. All younger than me. I guess the Lord only takes those who are good, Tee Hee. At least that is what they tell me. Well until next time, all have a wonderful life and hopefully we will have some decent weather soon. Wow! Didn't realize it has been over two years since my last message. Hope this finds everyone well. Can't complain, just usual old age aches and pains. We celebrated 58 years last June, amazing that so much time has gone by but as they say, time flys when you have fun, so very true. Was looking at the 1953 Nautalis and gosh, I was so surprised to see so many of my friends that weren't in there. Often think about them Nice to look at the year books, brings back great memories. Family still growing, think we may have another great grandchild in the works. Well friends other than the weather being beautiful for a change, don't have much to ad. You have a great week and talk to you soon again. July 14, 2011, weather improving although today is cloudy, sun should come out around noon. Can't complain about the past year. Not sure if I like this retirement or not. Seems I am busier now than when I had a husband three children and a job. Ray and I are fine, just celebrated 56 years of marriage, he is going to be 82 in December and I will be 67. Funny how you don't think of getting old, yet I don't feel old, still have a lot of energy. Our family has increased considerably, besides nine grandchildren we also have 15 great grandshildren. Sadly they live all over the palce so I don't get to see them to often but we do communitace on facebook or phone. What a wonderful life, God takes care of us and guides us but He does move in mysterious ways. Well nothing exciting to pass on to al of you but wish you a great day. Will try to get on this more often, by the way I posted a before picture, maybe more of you will remember me. God bless all. Well here we are in 2010. What a start, nasty weather, nasty economy and lots of unemployed but then we are now in March and hopefully it will be better for everyone as soon ...Expand for more
spring will be here and that should perk up most folks. Ray hasn't felt to good for some months and finally on Feb 5th, he had a mild stroke. Left his right arm and hand with some issues and a little speech problem on the right side of his mouth. Has be in physical therapy every week since and is slowly regaining his strength in his right arm and hand. So from all the doctors etc. he should recover very soon. This all was made possible by taking action due to fact as soon as I saw a problem, he was in the hospital and stablized within an hour and a half. Well life goes on, gave me a good reason to retire at least almost. I had a little shop selling consignments, collectibles, antiques etc., actually I started this for Ray as he really needed something to keep him busy as retiring was not the best thing for him, But he lost interest after we bought the mobile home, now it is closed so I can stay home more to be sure he is taken care of. Still have the web sites going but I can do them at home. Well dear friends, I will get to you soon and appreciate all those who have visited. I haven't ignored you, just haven't had a chance to just sit and communicate with everyone. So all have a great day. Life - 2009 Well here we are in 2009, August no less. Had another Great grandchild in April. Family is all well. Guess I didn't update in 2008 so here goes. We bought a double wide in a senior park and are enjoying our lives. Have done some remodeling. 2008 was a tough year, trying to deal with a lost child is hard so I would say we kind of just survived but are feeling better now. Faith in God can do wonders and anyone who doesn't believe in Him is a fool. Sorry had to add that. June of this year we celebrated 54 years of marriage. Can't believe we put up with each other that long but then time flys when having fun, right?? Hope you like the picture, looking for one "before", I don't think I have changed that much, a little older and maybe a little wiser. Well days to all. The beginning: Had three children, two boys and a girl. Have nine grandchildren and one great grand daughter with another on the way in January 07. Married for fifty one years the end of June 2006. Have led an exciting life and enjoyed every bit of it. Owned a motor home for about thirty years and traveled all over the country. Have worked for the federal government, state, city and county governments. In 2005 finished a seven year stint with an Indian Tribe. Owned my own consulting and bookkeeping business for a number of years and still expanding in fields others do not even know exist. Have worked in the economic development field, real estate, taught music and now at 71 years of age still looking for activity. Have written many successful federal grants and programs and now in the process of teaching homebuyer education classes. Other then that now I am building web sites. What can I say, once the challenge is gone, have to look for something else. Well the years 2005 thru 2007 have been interesting to say the least and many challenges have appeared. As I said previously had to keep active, so opened a little gift shop in Brookings, OR and it is a fun shop. Have another Great Grandaughter born this year. Let's see I think I now have seven or eight Great Granchildren. Kinda hard to keep up with them considering there for awhile I didn't think I would ever have any granchildren. Anyway, that is all for now, will be 73 this year and most likely will fully update this BIO in January or sometime next year. Update: 2007 was both a year to be proud of and also sad events occurred. Our oldest grandson, Michael was promoted to Lt in the Navy. He is scheduled to get out in May, maybe, anyway he just proposed to a wonderful young lady, maybe the wedding will be in November, depends on the Navy and this bloody war. Another grandson is on his way to Kuwait, his third tour. Everyone please pray for them. The saddest and most tragic event was our middle son taking his own life. What a waste, the catalyst was his wife taking their child and leaving. 51 years old, everything going for him, over a women and child, very sad and tragic, well at least he is a peace now and has no more worries. Our oldest son has remarried and seems to be doing well. Our daughter and her family are also doing well so we can't really complain, the Lord has been good to us in the past 53 years. Anyway, I guess this sort of thing happens to the best of families, life goes on. Update: Well it is a fact, Michael will be discharged from the Navy in May and he will be married Nov. 1st. How exciting. Our latest greatgrandchild is a girl, Hannah and she is a hoot. Everyone is well in our family. At 73 I am as healthy as a horse. Just had a total hip replacement caused from osteoarthritis. Does it slow me down, No way still going strong. Have a little unique shop in town, candles, gifts, antiques etc. A fun shop. Anyway gotta go. be well everyone and God bless.
